We've been told that 2023 will be the year that RTO is officially tracked and enforced.
It's easy to say that you'll never RTO, and maybe many of you won't. But some will feel compelled to go in starting January.
So here's the question. Will you keep going in regardless of how many others you see at your location? Or will you spend a predetermined amount of time RTOing, and then go back to full WFH if you don't see enough people in the office?
I understand that the RTO policy isn't contingent on a number of people being in the office. But no one wants to be the only one following the rules - especially when those rules are demonstrably asinine.
I'm going to give it a month. If by EOM January the facility is still mostly empty, then back home I go starting in February. I will have assumed that essentially no one is returning to office, which means the bank can't fire everyone.
(Sometimes people like to be cute, provoking, etc., and say that "yes, they actually can fire everyone!". But seriously, no they cannot.)
It'll be interesting to see everyone's resolve with resisting RTO, especially given that the more that resist, the less the bank can realistically do.
The bank CAN cut bonuses and performance ratings because that by itself doesn't cease operations. But if you've done the math on your post-tax bonus, you may have already decided that you'd rather WFH all year than get your one-time bonus. (Not to mention, feeling free from chasing that bonus all year will be liberating in its own way.)
