Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Attendance

So what happens if you only come once or twice a week instead of 3?

New here… was planning on coming today but something came up, can I just come 4 times next week or will my manager get an email about not going in 3 times this week?

It’ll mess up your rolling average and your manager will have to speak to you. If it only happens once, no big deal. Happened to me twice when my truck was being repaired, and then, when my father-in-law was dying and it was touch and go daily when he would pass. That was my second ding and HR didn’t give a damn about him dying. I got a verbal warning - first warning in 20 years.

My manager told me going forward just take My Time PTO and work from home. I told her that if I have to take off because I don’t want my average to slip, then no, I will not work at all that day.

Will it benefit my average to come in during the tennis work week?

If you are under 30, no worries. Your salary is half of the person you replaced. Just collaborate when you do decide to come in.

  1. Let your manager know when you do not go in 3 days.
  2. The tracking is based on a rolling 8 week schedule, however your manager and you will receive an email every 4 weeks when you fail to adhere to the 3 days per week. Your manager will have to complete attest to HR that she/her is aware or that you have been coached and that it further issues could result with negative action which could include termination.
  3. You can track you adherence in WorkDay...it is updated(when it's updating correctly) every Monday.
  4. Since the week of Thanksgiving is fully remote, when they update the system for that week....it will really help with your average.
  5. Be sure to enter your PTO/absences in WorkDay.

Keep in mind, TIAA tracks key strokes, number of emails sent/received, virtual meeting times, computer login time and inactivity, and web surfing on phones and devices. They may not tell you about any of this and HR may not allude to this in the handbook, but productivity is huge and it is measured and attendance is part of that component so I wouldn’t push the envelope too far and risk things. Just sayin.

As someone said. Management focuses on the 8 week average.

They may get an email or call for anyone under 3.0 for the last 8 weeks. So just let your boss know why you are under 3. Doing 2 and 4 each week will work and get you square.

Basically you need to be in the office 12 days a month out of the 20 or so possible days (except November since thy are doing a WFH week). So 24 days out of 40 work days for the 8 week average.

This past week they messed up the average calculation but fixed it quickly on Monday.

A lot of people setup a spreadsheet to track this and I am sure HR had a ton of cases on Monday of people complaining their average was wrong.

I absolutely love being treated like a child who is “absent” today and calling up their parents. All to ‘“collaborate” with people for 15 minutes face to face in an entire 2 week span. Makes so much sense and makes me feel super valued as an employee. (Shouldn’t have to say this… but yes I am being sarcastic)

TIAA treating people like children.

Did you get your work done? Your badge swipe shouldn’t matter.

Management focuses on the 8 week average. Doing 2 this week and 4 next week will get you there.

I’ve heard of someone being fired for not averaging 3 times attendance over the span of 4 weeks

I don’t think it’s a big deal
