Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

We trained foreigners to take our jobs!!!

I was laid off a recently despite many years of service.

I know of one other co-worker, also long term employee, that was laid off the same day, but there may have been more.

We have been instructed not to talk to our co-workers.

There are lay offs last year and the year before.

But that may have been because of the 175 million dollar SEC lawsuit.

Basically they have us train a foreign workforce to do our jobs and once they are trained, they get rid of us.

So if you are training people from overseas to "be part of your team", start looking for work.

@bj it is fashionable to blame it on foreigners when people didn’t upgrade themselves. There are people for whom BD job is paid vacation, they not only don’t work, they also poke their dirty nose in others’ work, where they have no knowledge.

If this post doesn’t get highest downvote, I will be surprised.

@bb I understand how difficult and emotional these situations can be. But if you think about it from a company’s perspective — if it were your own business — would you prioritize keeping everyone employed at the cost of sustainability, or would you make necessary changes to stay competitive?

Just like we upgrade our phones to newer models, companies also have to evolve to survive. If they don’t, competitors can easily outpace them, which could eventually lead to even greater job losses.

And one more thought — if a role can be learned completely within a 3-4 months of KT (and let’s be honest, that’s not training), it might be worth reflecting on whether the work being done was truly adding long-term value.

Would you feel any better if the person replacing you had the same nationality? Losing a job is always difficult and painful, and those feelings are completely valid. But perhaps it’s important that we don’t direct our frustration toward “foreigners.” The real issue seems to lie in leadership and decision-making — this appears to be more of a management and business direction problem than anything else.

All companies discriminate against age, I don’t think it is always “foreigners” thing. Did you see how many edge associates have joined BD is last 3 years? Almost all of them be are nepo candidates. And those nepos will also cause job loss for long term employees. I learned one thing in my experience, companies always look for profit, they don’t care about our nationality or race.

Well, there's nothing new under the sun, unfortunately. Money is more important than morale in today's world. Sad.
