@1ft
So you were out placing and splicing fiber? When i say contractors i should have clarified the ones doing the plant work. Every company has inside employees to answer phones. Level 3 hired vendors to do outside work as needed. Including those from qwest and centurlink.

@1ff I wasn't a contractor. I was an employee and we were called employee-owners or EOs.

@1es
Well then you should know Level 3 gave up the employee ownership after they were spun off and became level 3. The company they were spun off from was employee owned and some of their shares were carried over to the spin off. Started trading as a public company in 1998. Hmm, before you started there? And as far as employees...i'm sure they had sales people and office drones. As for employees doing work..all contracted. Including me, who worked for who spliced fiber for level 3 as a vendor.

@1d0 No, I don't know what Level 3 Communications was, please explain it to me. I'd really love to know. Never mind where I've worked for 20+ years. Come on. Let me know.

@1bc

Level 3 was not employee owned way back when or then or now. Do you even know what level 3 was?

Heeeellllllloooooo... wake the f up people, there is nothing more new here that your own eyes haven't seen for the last 5 years!
Unions only work for companies that truly care about their product and customer which is surely not LUMEN.
Any Union members left at Lumen will be left holding the bag of confusion for the next 3 years, if that long, and anyone still around at end of contract will be cherry picked for certain mgmt positions while the rest are sunset.
AI is the next wealth redistribution model for the top percenters and the bain of evil for everyone else.
Remember way back, 25 years ago, when Technology careers were the future... we built the technology that is now sunsetting our careers and the employment market is showing us what it means to be yesterdays garbage! Good luck to all, signing off from tech careers for good myself

@nb you would lose in court. Non Union, they offered you a job because your job is going away. Union possibly the same but you'll get a contractual lay off.

@nc.from n6. Yup we got played. Were told hey we're improving our network and you are the techs that will make a big change. When they pulled the rug out the union said we're fighting for you then they say we scored! You got an extension you probably won't see...

@n6 Just remember. When the cr-p contract was ratified, the union agreed to not fight the sale.
They were blackmailed basically.
It should have sent up red flags that the members would get sc--wed.

@n6...We were offered a "show of interest" and we replied yes or no, some of us told name was not submitted and some have received offers, if you were offered employment and no details were offered, don't accept. If it was me I would have a blast with this in court if I didn't accept the job and then was told I fired.

So you offer me at job at netco or whatever new name is. No idea what job responsibilities are,truck,tools,training,cellphone,garage.,how many people you taking,hear nothing from Ctl/lumen. This is an utter cluster fu-k. And I have till next week to decide, and I may or may not have job at Ctl if I decline. So fu--ing pi---d.

@gs
Level 3 was always contractor only. Thats what theyre headed back to. He-l, they were hiring qwest and ctl fiber splicers as vendors to do their work. Milked the sh-t out of those jobs in the middle of nowhere....and ill be damned here we are again.

And watch. They won't let employees who decline to transfer either. (Plus they will have a hiring freeze).
This company doesn't care or want a union. They want the SLT and the underlings are contractors.
It's not gonna be fun.

Obviously after the sale goes through and they see how many people accepted the offer to go to networkco. Then they'll evaluate how many people are left and layoff a bunch of the same ones who voted yes to a sh---y contract a year in advance.

all the signs are there..... leadership types have been "in meetings" non stop last couple of weeks. Never available to their teams. Canceling or missing regular meetings. Deja vu.....same patterns as years past. Its coming.

How would we know this?

Stupid question. If you even work for the company you’ll know when your boss tells you. No one in this forum knows but the doom and gloom experts will be here soon to tell you exactly what’s going to happen. And they’ll be wrong then disappear again for another month. Just like the person who comes on every month to ask when the next layoff is.

For Management... any day, all day could be the day. For represented... shortly after the "sale" goes through and the moving chairs settle down.
