I keep seeing people panic after being let go in their late 50s, but I’ve watched a few land solid roles through headhunters who actually care. It’s not easy, but there are still companies willing to take experience over flash. I manage a mixed-age team, and the older folks are often the ones I rely on most. Keep your skills sharp, stay flexible, and don’t let anyone convince you you’re done.

If your making good money and was able to hang on until your late 50s you should be financially free that it does not matter. I’m retiring by 38 fu-k this place
As eluded to, only hope for folks over 50 is outside of EM.
The young hipos in my team are feeling it . The moaning is daily. I’m almost done and have a plan on the way out

Would really like to see some data on NSI rates based on age & years of service.
Im most worried about making to 55 and being able to get full retirement/pension.
Post of vacuum of development after mid 40s is totally correct. There's just no career path anymore.
55 is the Exxon early retirement age. The real game is to survive to 52, assume you started with Exxon on or before 40.
You all worry about 55+? I do not see a path to get there from the mid 40s. And I am not talking about surviving the assessment process, I mean in terms of development and growth.
If you are panic after 55, you are a loser
Indirectly you say that all hope for persons in late 50’s is outside of EM.
Almost nobody can get to 60 without getting PIP’d.
I got a job at 57 without issue and still have the job 10 years later. I am glad I did not retire at 57 because I have been able to save more the last 10 years of my career than the previous 20 years. At the time my financial advisor said I should work past 57 to pad the retirement more and it has worked out well. That was back in 2016, but things are much worse job wise now. Also, when hiring no one inquired about my age. It also helps if you don’t look your age, and I am lucky that people always think I am younger than I am. That does not mean I feel younger, because I feel like 67 and will be retiring soon to just get out of the daily grind of getting up so early and I have lost interest in things like presentations, meetings, and all the none technical work that just seems like a waste if time. If it was just technical work I probably would keep working at least part-time to transfer my skills and knowledge to the younger employees.
