Layoffs are rampant and possibly biased. Does US immigration officials audit the layoffs ? If there are no laws are broken then no company should be afraid. Cannot believe anyone can claim that there are no qualified US citizens who can do the work done by H1B visa holders. This corporate america bullying needs to stop.

The fix that is needed should start with the American Tech Workforce Act that is sitting in committee in the house of representatives. Now that the EAGLE Act imploded under democratic control, maybe republican control will forward movement on this bill. Please call or write rep. Jim Banks to let him know of your observations of H1B abuse/fraud and your support for his bill.

The American Tech Workforce Act would update the prevailing wage to $110,000 from a low $60,000 that was determined as a high wage in the 90's but never updated. It would also cancel OPT. I think what would need to be included would be a ban on H1B's for 2 more years for companies that have layoffs.
No action this week. See you in next year. Fed will be blamed for more action in 2023.
One reason H1bs are attractive is they are bonded to the employer even if they are not paid less compared to everyone else. It helps with project planning as the company is sure they will not leave in middle of the project.
Dan Rather Reports: Layoffs of US workers replaced by work visa holders:
This is a bit dated (11 years ago) but it's even more true today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeoBWzIRuic
Oracle like any other tech companies are using legal immigration rules; these IT companies pay many millions to Washington DC lobbyists to make the immigration rules in their favors;
IT industry needs a very large pool of workers companies can control: what a better way to use H1Bs?
Can an online petition regarding the audit be started and have the results published ? If
“I have written to all three of my Congressional representatives about companies abusing the H1B system at the expense of US citizens.”
Republicans ignoring you?
Oracle brings H1Bs to flood the labor market, to drive the cost of labor down and to divide the working class. They think it's easier to control foreign nationals--and holding those visas is a strong form of control.
Americans have already been decimated in the IT industry in America unfortunately.
High paying jobs in America are in limited supply; why giving them to H1Bs?
It's a really state of affairs when the mass influx of H1Bs and green carders into IT jobs has led to so many layoffs of Americans.
Someone had mentioned the alleged "un-American" comments being made. Well guess what, whether you like it or not, the loss of American jobs thru this despicable hiring practice is what is TRULY un-American.
Who is deleting the messages that are not pro H1b. Looks like this website is maintained and monitored to explicitly remove messages posted in favor of Americans.
If I go to canada , you did not got my job now did you? Job went to Canada. You remained the same id--t as you were the yesterday. The logic you gave just hillarious. Anyway, i had enough of back and forth between bunch of racist mo--ns. Good luck with your sueing and barking. I do have to admit though, non performers are like snakes. They smile , ask for help , show gratitude , then given anonymity, post cheap labor and deport. I guess it is what it is.
I have written to all three of my Congressional representatives about companies abusing the H1B system at the expense of US citizens. Not a one of them cares, of course.
You think i get deported and you get my job. False. Oracle will just send me to Canada. Happened to one of my friend in fusion team. Sc--w you and your pathetic approach towards immigrants.
Then go to Canada. Then it becomes a problem for Canadians. But only to a point, Canada has plenty of laws on the books that protect natives and permanent residents. As I posted previously, The US is the only country that does not protect its own native workers, and that includes green card holders. Try the same thing in Germany Switzerland, Australia or any other. Even India. Oh and if you want to talk racism, try dating an Indian woman and you are not Indian. Sorry that won't work on me.
SO very glad I left Oracle a number of years back, the company is just in the gutter now. And you can see it even looking thru many of these malicious culture clashes here. Not a healthy place to work.
“I think we need to stop posting messages on this thread. This is very unamerican. “
I think we need to stop this too . Some of the comments here are way non-humanitarian.
Give a keyboard warrior anonymity and you will know his real character .
So to my fellow American colleagues, here's the bottom line - We all know what's been going on at Oracle as a hiring practice for a super long time. But the only way this practice can be curtailed or even stopped is if our beloved federal government did something about it, just like how most other developed countries like Australia, UK, India, and many others impose significant restrictions on companies trying to hire foreigners for high paying IT jobs. Our government has made the USA a hiring magnet for foreigners who end up taking many IT jobs here.
But there is ZERO incentive for Washington to do anything about this, as those in elected offices are in cahoots with big businesses like Oracle who want this hiring practice to not only continue but to fluorish. And that is why you see what you see when you visited Redwood Shores and now Austin.
So while you can certainly gripe all you want here on this comment board, it will solve nothing.
I am on H1B and received 20 % raises in last 2 years and 90K in RSUs. We are no longer cheap and are being paid more due superior skill set. If you only you knew Tamil was world's oldest language.
no need of apology, but don’t cry when A spade is called a spade .
“ While there are a number of commenters making rude statements about immigrant employees, the arrogant and condescending comments of the one (likely Indian or Chinese) H1B about Americans is below the belt!”
This is classic example of in-group bias . There are numerous examples of people here making pure racist and condescending remarks on Indians in this thread , but author of this comment had to write about the first such comment here from seemingly an Indian / Chinese person . Sir , like others pointed out here , Give respect and take respect. You don’t deserve to be treated with respect if you make racist remarks and call to go back to ‘sh-t h-le ‘ country
The powers-that-be would like nothing more than for us to be bickering amongst ourselves, blaming immigration & visa-holders, or blaming racism & protectionist attitudes. The more we bicker among ourselves, the less we notice what they're up to. Each of us is just a number on a spreadsheet. Always remember that.
It's really simple - If you want respect, give respect. And this applies to everyone!
Regarding respect ,you get what you give. Anti immigration and racism is not America and i strongly believe in that. Deport h1b , cheap labor. Calling that on your co workers , same people you go to beg for help for code change , or when you are stuck in a customer call , same immigrant need to go in a call to save your a-s. Dont go ask for help from any brown people , who are from india as that shows your hypocrisy of your superior american skill. And most of them are in h1b by the way.
While there are a number of commenters making rude statements about immigrant employees, the arrogant and condescending comments of the one (likely Indian or Chinese) H1B about Americans is below the belt! Absolutely stunning and shameful. And you wonder why there’s some anti-immigrant sentiment here, especially with Americans getting RIFd by the truckload by Oracle?
So H1Bs and green carders - Show some respect for America that is providing you with a far better life than you’d ever have in your home country and is also offering you lucrative employment. No need to carry a chip on your shoulder.
when you cannot come up with a logical argument , hurl abuses on the other person .!!! Keep going !
Here we go. Cant keep my job so blame an immigrant. I am in h1b. And I earn probably double of my american colleges at Oracle in my same team. It is also true some of my American colleges are getting more than me in other teams. I got 15% raise over last two year and on top of that I receive stock option as part of my promotion. Calling h1b a cheap labor is just ridiculous. Improve on your skills rather than blaming someone. You think i get deported and you get my job. False. Oracle will just send me to Canada. Happened to one of my friend in fusion team. Sc--w you and your pathetic approach towards immigrants.
Oracle should be sued for its keeping so many H1Bs while at the same time RIFing Americans. If anyone thinks this has not been happening, then you’re in denial.
Deport all H1Bs FIRST before laying off any US citizens: this is simple as this.
This thread seems to have hit a nerve on both the sides. Guys the enemy is corporate America greed.
No, the real enemy is American Politicians. Corporations are only playing by the rules they are allowed, In baseball, if you are allowed to throw a spitball, you throw spitballs, right? In ice hockey if fighting is allowed, encouraged even, you fight, right? In American football, if you can grab the facemask or clothesline the runner, you do it. The big problem is that Our immigration laws are a total mess. If you ever tried to get a green card, you'll know that in spades. Companies are only operating where in a manner they feel gives them the best chance to make money. Right or wrong that is reality.
We need our immigration laws cleaned up and we need to put American workers first. And you can get hot under the collar all you want over that but the fact remains the US is the only country that does not protect it's native or green card workers. By some people's thinking, every other country is racist or xenophobic. I'm not against H1B's but not at the expense of the native workforce. And our Politicians just do not care. The uniparty does not care.
"Maybe you lot should get more qualifications and less entitlement..."
@1lql+1k74uqqZ - What a total pile of you-know-what! Yeah, keep calling Americans "racist" for wanting to protect high-paying IT jobs for which there is a huge number of qualified US citizens. And keep calling Americans unqualified and entitled. Any further insults you want to hurl?
But its "no problemo" for other countries to protect jobs for their own citizens, is it? Maybe @1lql+1k74uqqZ should spend a little time finding a job in India, where he won't be welcomed or wanted AT ALL.
Oracle like many IT US firms work for India department of employment by bringing over hundreds of thousands of work visa holders and replace American citizens
American students spend over $300k in 4-year college education and then get replaced by cheaper Indian H1Bs: what a cool system!
Well, at least America is helping Indian immigrants have a better life for themselves while fully qualified Americans keep getting dumped.
And yes, the browning of IT companies like Oracle is on full display for all to see. But if anyone brings up this obvious fact, of course out comes the 'ole race card! The charges that we are anti-immigrant, that we're nationalistic, that we're "entitled" to jobs that we're supposedly less qualified for than H1Bs, and the beat goes on.
If you're a US citizen, try to land an IT job in Australia, UK, Germany, Japan, or even India. It won't happen! Those governments (and many others as well) have a ton of regulation hoops that a local company has to jump through to justify why a non-citizen should be hired. This is done for one very legitimate reason - Countries in general want to keep jobs for their own citizens, as they should!
Yet in the US we make it much, much easier for an immigrant to land a high-paying job here, and it's NOT because there are no US citizens qualified for the job. To think otherwise is laughable. I can offer many examples of this immoral practice, in which American colleagues of mine were RIFd after they had TRAINED newly hired H1Bs who effectively took their jobs after they were canned.

This thread seems to have hit a nerve on both the sides. Guys the enemy is corporate America greed.
Deport work visa holders first and then American employment will flourish
Biden didn’t sc--w up immigration. It’s been a mess for years.
Big Tech has been looking for ways to cheap out on people for decades now.
Twenty five years ago we were arguing about the SAME D.A.M.M.E.D. thing and blaming each other, our fellow workers of the world.
And never or rarely is the finger pointed at the real reason:
the CEOs and BoDs.
US Chamber of Commerce.
The big money behind US politicians.
Secretive global agreements and meetings ( you all think the corporate panic behind omg recession layoffs is organic? think again)
Step back, use your brain and open your eyes.
As long as we keep arguing and blaming each other, the LEs and SCs, Bezos’, Musks, etc ARE WINNING!!
Smells of racism here.
Maybe you lot should get more qualifications and less entitlement, so you won’t lose those jobs that you clearly believe you deserve to brown people. How dare they be more qualified you?!
