Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

Let’s Be Real

I truly think Headquarters should be moved to Richardson. As long as HQ is in Chicago, the “Chicago Way of Doing Things” will continue to prevail over our company culture. Talking a good game, but not really looking out for our members… giving in to political pressure over doing what’s right…. Looking good is more important than being good…

Our company has been in a downward spiral ever since PHH said we were ‘in it to win it’ in regards to the healthcare exchange after the Affordable Healthcare Act was passed. I appreciated her vision and that of Paula after her, but HCSC did not move quickly enough to modernize our systems, too many decision makers stifled and snuffed out true innovation. Projects and great ideas get stalled in committee to this day. We are wanting to grow grow grow, but we aren’t insightful enough to truly be ready for the growth. HCSC employees do our best but we can’t work round the clock, 365 days a year. Dedication cannot overcome lack of true leadership from the top.

I’m proud of every employee that has stayed the course. Our members deserve our best, and I see if from my fellow employees and our direct management every day.

No offense but I’d rather pay a state income tax and live in Chicago than have no income tax and live in Dallas or Nashville.

Somebody’s jealous they’re not in the Chicago HQ…

Now that we have a Nashville location, I actually think that would be the best. Great location and no state income tax in TN

@a1 if they move the headquarters they would not need to sell the building in Chicago. Its not like there is a law stating that you cannot own property in IL without it being your headquarters.

I was always surprised that HCSC didn't move the headquarters to TX long ago. I mean from a state income tax standpoint their take home pay would be noticeably bigger living in TX than IL. No need to worry about top talent. Nothing stopping people from working in Chicago if they want to....and hiring there. But to save a on state income taxes its simply a boost in pay.

PHH was no angel. Being from the Texas plan she fought ACA tooth and nail from becoming law. She also laid off staff in ANTICIPATION of increased costs due to ACA. It was pure fear mongering and evil.

I agree , Chicago politics destroy companies in this state and HCSC executives kiss all those politicians butts in Illinois. I'm seeing more departments that have several different units within the dept now just combine and do the work of all 3 units as one. The employee stress is crazy, the lack of pay for doing all this work, and all sups can do is say thank you a million times. Thank you don't pay my worth or take the stress away.

In what universe is Maurice able to sell that albatross on 300 E. Randolph. Maybe for pennies to the dollar.

Location has no impact on leadership style or company ethos. Chicago is a place, not a mindset. Even then, the location of an office doesn't impact one's business ethics and practices. This is just a thinly veiled comment to the op's political persuasion.

Besides, if you were going to argue over the most appropriate location, Nashville would actually make the most sense given it's proximity to other executive-level health insurance talent and national healthcare groups.

Richardson is a wonderful place to grow our back office but for the top corporate talent you kind of need a foothold somewhere like Chicago.
