Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Layoff in October

Heard it from my LL6 who's husband is in Finance. Sounds like a big one.

@pw totally agree, this is unacceptable, usually the company does better.

@dx Not a team player. They must've leveraged what their value was to the company for reasonable accommodations to do better if not continue. Sounds selfish. Threatening the company using their "top performance" to undermine our process... pathetic. That person needs to be humbled and taught a lesson. I hate people like them!!! They'll get what's coming eventually

You must mean some kind of event. There have been trickle layoffs for quite some time. Not sure why they need to do some type of event.

@wf, try to get the facts right, it’s 911k job gain revised down from 4/2024 to 3/2025. In other words, the total non-farm job creation within that 12 months period is only 800k jobs

Take pictures of all important documents you need using personal phone, even if you have to explain in interviews you need some reference to refresh

@e4 if you can’t download the stuff directly, get an HDMI-to-USB dongle on Amazon, set it up as a “monitor” using OBS studio in your personal computer (or whatever recording program you like) and record the screen as you scroll whatever document you want to keep.

Later, you can take screenshots of the video and even use OCR to convert text in images to text files.

You can take pictures and videos of the computer screen with your personal phone too.

If you work at Ford, do yourself a favor: gather your current job description ( if you have one), your LDEP, and any other information you need to update your resume. Sometimes you can look at a similar posting for help. If it happens to you, you will be locked out immediately and you won’t have the change to get these things. We all use our company laptop for personal stuff (your brother’s resume, the email you sent to your child’s school, etc). Start now and gather the items you will need.

@dt Poor guy. To the "top performer": they are going to squeeze your.brain and then damage it U.O.E.N.O.

They don't like raising the bar or accommodating a persons best environment and conditions to not only perform their best, but be their best.. They are going to have their life flipped upside down shortly after 2

@ds, we have one exception in our department. People are really ticked and none of the rest of us were approved. The guy who was approved is out top technical guy for sure, but his reason was no better than anyone else’s.

So I guess the answer is, yes, some exceptions are being approved. But it depends on how much you are valued more than the justification you give.

They won’t do a layoff in October. They’ll fire people for cause (RTO attendance) in October.

@c9+1k4nv376y We'll know more about those numbers after September 30th. The latest official numbers are in the 10-Q filing up to June 30th. Until that day, the company spent $133 millions from the $500 millions allocated for this year "primarily attributable to employee separations". So technically, the worst is yet to come.

Here is the content of the last 10-Q filing regarding employee separations expenses...

------////////////////////-------

NOTE 14. EMPLOYEE SEPARATION ACTIONS AND EXIT AND DISPOSAL ACTIVITIES

We generally record costs associated with voluntary separations at the time of employee acceptance. We generally record costs associated with involuntary separation programs when management has approved the plan for separation, the affected employees are identified, and it is unlikely that actions required to complete the separation plan will change significantly. Costs associated with benefits that are contingent on the employee continuing to provide service are accrued over the required service period.

Company Excluding Ford Credit

Employee separation actions and exit and disposal activities include employee separation costs, facility and other asset-related charges (e.g., impairment, accelerated depreciation), dealer and supplier payments, other statutory and contractual obligations, and other expenses, which are recorded in Cost of sales and Selling, administrative, and other expenses. Below are actions we have initiated:

In 2021, we ceased vehicle manufacturing in Sanand, India and exited manufacturing operations in Brazil. In 2022, we ceased manufacturing in Chennai, India and ceased production of the Mondeo in Valencia, Spain. We do not expect significant additional costs for these actions; however, the remaining cash outflows are expected to be finalized over several years.

In 2023, we announced our plan to phase-out production of the Focus at our Saarlouis Body and Assembly plant in Germany. We will cease production in 2025, and we plan to repurpose the facility into a technology center, retaining 1,000 positions.

In 2023, 2024, and 2025, we also had separation programs for salaried workers, primarily in Europe, and expect these programs to be substantially complete by the end of 2027. In addition, in 2024, we offered voluntary separation packages to certain members of our hourly workforce in North America, and these programs are substantially complete.

(a)Excludes pension costs of $50 million and $11 million in the second quarter of 2024 and 2025, respectively, and $64 million and $35 million in the first half of 2024 and 2025, respectively.

We recorded costs of $853 million and $133 million in the first half of 2024 and 2025, respectively, related to the initiated actions above. We estimate that we will incur about $500 million in total charges in 2025 related to such actions, primarily attributable to employee separations; some charges are related to plans that are subject to negotiations with a works council, union, or other social partner. In addition, we continue to review our global businesses and may take additional restructuring actions where a path to sustained profitability is not feasible.

Curious has anyone actually seen how much of the allocated separation $ they have consumed to date? There has been a lot of trickle layoffs this summer, I’m guessing they might add up to the old style big bang layoff already. I think we know they are done when the extra HR they brought in are gone.

Anyone know the date? Early October makes sense if they’re trying to line it up with a fiscal quarter, November and December seem out due to holidays and vacation.
