Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

No matter how good you are, you're not safe

I've been trying to explain this to a few coworkers who still haven't figured out that even if your reviews are always stellar and you've been here for years and consider yourself irreplaceable, you're not. I think some people could face a hard truth if they don't wake up.

It's got nothing with being good. Or for that matter being bad at your work.
If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you're picked off.

yes: People that are genuinely irreplaceable do to a unique skill-set may not be protected from layoffs

the dangerous myth in this job market: but they are certainly capable of getting another in short order.
^ especially the short order part.

yes: The only way to be truly safe from layoffs is to have several other job offers waiting for you

@bz
Nike is disolving.
The US is swimming in debt.
China, Russia, and India are giving you the middle finger.
You are close to being an absolute failure.
Luckily you were not successful in the country that you originated from.

@cn no. Hires and promotions are way more diverse than what you describe . I am sorry you hate taking your privileges away.

Are you arguing that layoffs, work visas, and outsourcing are part of DEI? 😂

Give me a break.

Well this all went sideways fast...

Anyway... OP you are 1000% right. I have many friends who thought the same and were riffed.

"No matter how good you are, you're not safe"

I'd even expand that to include: "No matter how good you are and no matter what area of work you do, you're not safe".

(well unless CIS then yeah it's like the Post Office, you're locked in).

Would you say EH is a DEI hire? He is part of the select elite group.

After DEI the only way to get a role was to have the right skin color. Nothing changed. Only who held the power.

DEI is the opposite of “based in politics”. We got DEI because before only way to get roles was to be part of brotherhood.
You got it very wrong, before DEI it was way less about merit than now.

Is it? There is 4 people left in DEI… they essentially were all laid off.

its based on politics (DEI), based on who you know or what country your from,
based on if you are bound to the company (work visa), and based on how money can be saved immediately from cutting you

merit/competition is gone
that maybe only shows up in actual sports like the NFL
