Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Hiring has continued

I take this as good news. If we're hiring once again, that means layoffs are less likely.

I'm certain there will be another layoff event soon since reviews are coming up, but don't expect all cost saving measures to be personnel, though people are definitely super expensive, especially in high cost areas.

Some of the other stuff happening will be office closures at multiple locations. Tons of budgets have been totally slashed, and totally reasonable requests with a business justification are being turned down.

As painful as it is for folks hit by layoffs, so much of this feels like a correction to the obvious rampant spending we all know so many departments were doing - the number of tools we've seen rolled out with sketchy utility, little to no advertisement or adoption, no real research or proof of concept, and with all the bells and whistles included? You know it's happened and that stuff is getting shut down hard. Think about how many projects you've heard of that had some sort of huge initiative but didn't really matter in the end or actually caused more problems? I'm sad to see good people get fired but I won't miss the pointless initiatives.

… planning a $1.3 billion in reducing costs for 2023 doesn’t sound good…

They're closing more buildings. They will definitely have some massive layoffs in January. Dan is an id--t.

Or I might be naive to think so, but I don't care.
