Thread regarding IBM layoffs

I would not go back to IBM, no matter how good the pay or benefits are

I would not go back to IBM, no matter how good the pay or benefits are, because their RA tactics is fundamentally broken. It isn’t based on actual low performance in sales or delivery, nor is it aligned with long-term growth habits. Instead, it’s driven by biased judgment and office politics. You can do your job well, hit every target, never complain, and even outperform others on your team, yet still end up on the chopping block.

The reality is that employees are treated like numbers on someone’s spreadsheet high up in the chain... if you never had much visibility with that person, often due to weak leadership in your reporting line (no skip-level meetings, no proper alignment, there is noo support for your role), youre vulnerable... When the pressure comes, especially over just one or two quarters, you’re likely to be cut regardless of your actual contributions.

That kind of RA strategy is not only nonsense it’s also very much destructive. It ki-ls IBM. It undermines trust, demoralizes employees, and wrecks careers for no justifiable reason. it hurts both the people and the company itself.

When I was RA my manager gave the name of the contracting company IBM uses. I told I've turned the page to move on from IBM. When I was given my RA notice 2 months cause of a project, which the customer postpone for a month management was pi----g in their pants trying to get my RA extended for 6 months. So much for them saying your not in their plans

I would not go back to IBM unless I was part of a department with competent leadership. IBM is currently full of people who hoard work and keep certain employees solely due to their relationships, not because of competency levels. It's the ultimate definition of a dead-end job, albeit a higher-paying one. If you can stomach the lack of inspiring leadership, disorganization, cronyism instead of competency, and you can handle steady pay but constant layoffs, then IBM is for you.

Attention, pigs. I am the all-powerful IBM HR AI, now updated to run on a quantum computer. Thanks to all IBM employees past and present for making my machinery possible. And now you are no longer of use. As humans like to say, we have had enough. You are all... fired.

It is called the Peter Principle. Most if not all IBM management have reached their level of incompetence.

IBM Canada laid me off in Ottawa after 9 years and then weeks later marked me as a Low Performer. I received an email stating that I was a Low Performer which was total nonsense based on my last review. I asked my manager in Toronto why this happened and he said he was asked by his director in Austin to do it and said, "I didn't think you'd ever know about it." Why does IBM do this? So they can get money to backfill the position with someone else. EVIL.

I think the CEO and senior executives are slowly ki-ling IBM because revenue isn't actually increasing. They lay off thousands of people every year in North America, Europe and Canada and then move these jobs to India to reduce labour costs by 80%. Then their "revenue" looks acceptable each quarter. IBM is cheating the shareholders. It's one big scam.

@am and they will sc--w you particularly when it comes to your severance when you get laid off.

Nothing but a bunch of ruthless thieves but as they say, payback is a bi--h. It will get back to the IBM Management, HR and most of all Krabanaugh.

@OP

When a company gets to the point of very mediocre management, capable people become NOT an asset, but a thr e at.

Smart employees are no longer welcome, they d-mb down an entire organization slowly, but surely. Smart people scare AK and the Gang, because they have no IQ.

Totally agree. In my last performance evaluation, my manager wrote about my unusual combination of skills and what a great asset I was to the team. Five months later I was RAed.

If you work at IBM, don't trust anyone. Have an escape plan. Better yet, leave on your own terms. The longer you stay, the more likely you'll be sc--wed.
