Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

As the Oracle World Turns, Week of 12/4

Another week of silent layoffs come and gone at the Big O. What else is new? While the rest of the world has empathetic leaders, compassionate colleagues, and an understanding that someone—usually the CEO—erred, it's 'tis the season for uncertainty and backstabbing in LJE and SC's kingdom of Application and Cloud Potemkin Villages.

The ultimate Potemkin Village comes at the end of next week, of course—FY23 Q2 earnings. It'll be the usual bluster of LJE talking about how Oracle is beating SAP, eating Salesforce for lunch, and destroying Amazon. Lies, lies, and more lies. SC will be talking about how revenue for Apps increased 25%. It's easy to show off when you go from 1.5 to 1.8.

Enjoy the week, and happy holiday shopping. Don't buy too much, because there's always more unannounced layoffs. Fear is the gift that keeps on giving.

The other leaders admit failure.

On what planet does this happen? All I ever read or hear is something like "due to business conditions beyond our control we are reducing our work force." Like the recent Stellantis layoff announcement: "EV's cost a lot to build"

@4aph+1k15eR2H The other leaders admit failure. Larry hides on Lanai with his tail between his legs while Safra works away on her spreadsheets in Florida. Is this not obvious?

I wonder where these empathetic leaders work. Because every time I've observed layoffs at every place I have worked they were performed coldly, with scripts that managers could not deviate from. I've never seen a CEO or a VP apologize. It was basically "Your position has been eliminated, thank you for your service. Security will see you out after you clear your desk."

I will give this advice. Gain other skills besides the Oracle ones or it is going to be tough finding another gig in technology. Consider making a total change. Do something different. Just be happy. If your family can handle it, take a lesser paying job. If you want to stay in technology, figure out where your focus should be and train yourself. Maybe you make more. However, money if you can swing it should not be the priority. Finding something that invigorates you and where you feel meaning. Change can be good and I am just warning you that nobody wants Oracle anymore. Companies using it are stuck in it for now. No demand.

I write these so Oracle employees who come here day after day to complain can finally leave. Maybe if most of you do leave, Larry will finally get the message.

Stop being doormats.

"I have to ask - WHY is anyone continuing to put up with this? "

Because of the Oracle Doormat Principal. The remaining Oracle employees have no self-esteem, prospects, or sense of self-worth. So they cry about it here instead of taking any ownership or responsibility for their own careers and lives. Sad.

I have to ask - WHY is anyone continuing to put up with this? No one should have to live week to week worrying about whether Oracle is going to RIF you. No one deserves this type of treatment by any company.

Many people who work at fast food places like In-N-Out have better job stability than a lot of Oracle employees. If you’re not already doing so, make it a point this week to start actively looking for a new job outside of Oracle. Land a job where you are paid well and treated well, without all of this weekly layoff BS to worry about. You deserve better!

Why the silence?

In my family we never talk about issues, with some kind of motivation that believes, if you don’t talk about problems, then they don’t exist!

Visa holders jobs are safe; it’s the rest who are at risk
