Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Laying off 400 people out of 70,000+ is theater

Laying off 400 people in a multi-billion dollar company with over 70,000 employees is a performance. Bottom Line impact: Negligible. Some say Nike hires the best, smartest. Well then: Retool with the amazing talent. Do It differently than other behemoth organizations bending to the whims of consulting firms.

These layoffs: Designed solely to instill fear. It's a control tactic.

Pick a new formula.

Do better. Some of the people gone are needed now. Culturally. Financially.

Nike is making a turn around and stock is improving. If you disagree, youre just a troll. Look at all the new releases that are bringing back the old Nike look. Stop your whining!!

@hj+1k0zv9ndj I mean we are finally realizing we aren’t a tech company, we are replacing product and sales roles that never should have gone away and we are prioritizing moving and promoting internal talent vs ETWs . Seems like some sh---y moves huh???

@hj

We don’t care about those.. the only thing we live for is whether CS gets booted and if APLA splits up!

ETWs are not permanent roles. That’s why ETWs are employed over FTEs to begin with, because they are more flexible. I’m not sure why people are so up in arms over ETW contracts being terminated.

The 375 was only FTE’s this time in Oregon.
This doesn’t include the mass ETW firings or the THOUSANDS of positions that haven’t been replaced in almost three years.

@em+1k0zv9ndj Lol marketing talent at Nike is a joke now. Just look at the CMO FFS.

Nike might hire the best in marketing, advertising, product design and the likes. Definitely only worse, bad and good or Cali rejects in Tech lol. Inner circle!

500 or 700 out of 10k doesn’t sound too bad until you realize the decisions are not based on merit or capability. Instead other factors are used. Being highly rated won’t save you.

@cr - Agree with you on tech funding cut. IDSA supports you

Less budget to tech is a welcome change after wasteful spending for so many years with little to show in terms of tech that just works.

400 of 10,000+ = Still performative.
When they decide to not have a retirement-aged wh dude running the company, things might stand a chance?

Old men choose old ways of fixing perceived problems and rely on old school consulting firms to bail them out.

No creativity. No trust.

What was the percentage of the last CDA?

If the 400 number is correct, it probably only covers layoffs in Oregon, not globally. So comparing that to 70,000 employees worldwide isn’t really fair. A better comparison would be 400 out of the 10,700 people at WHQ, which is about 4 percent. Also, some teams were hit harder than others, especially Tech, since EH is shaping the company around his vision. That means less budget going to Tech and more to business teams that support sport.

because everyone knows employees living in fear is the best way to get quality work done 🙄

What are you talking about? Where did 400 come from? This reorg literally isn’t cost cutting it’s strategy shifting. Also 50k of those 70k workers are prob retail, part time, min wage and not exactly the space to make the most for efforts with cuts
