Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Looking for guidance

I could really use some honest advice. I have lost confidence in my management. It feels like they're only focused on managing up, not leading and supporting the team. 100% delegation on their part. There are no real development opportunities here and visibility to external stakeholders is blocked, possibly intentionally. Major achievements go totally unnoticed. Some go as far as giving their favorite employee all the credit for the work that somebody else did. It’s hard to have faith in the leadership chain.

If anyone’s been through something similar, how did you handle it? What helped you move forward, either within the company or beyond?

You need to pursue your own dev. Use all the tuition reimbursement money they give you every year. Get certs. Stack up credit hours to work towards a degree. Read a lot. Who cares what the company offers in this area? They want us all gone anyway. Dev yourself accordingly.

If you are feeling this way now, it will only get worse. Start looking out for yourself, because no one else will. There are a lot of other companies out there, that will value you. Don’t let yourself stay here due to some blind loyalty. Charlie and his crew don’t care about you, so why should you care about them. I left after 25 years here and I cannot believe what a toxic he-l hole Charlie created since he took over. Look for other opportunities while you still have your job.

It looks like this bank laid off all the workers, including the creative contributors, and retained the command and control management. Besides, "they" couldn't self-manage. Can't trust them, so they brought in (or misuse) tools to micro-manage them. Risk management gone awry. This is how you create a fearful bank -- a bank that is infused with toxicity, an unsafe place to work.

There are plenty of managers in Wells doing absolutely NOTHING but looking out just for themselves. They sure do have calendars full of meetings and tens of meaningless follow-up to prove otherwise. When they’re not in meetings, i hear they’re perfecting the ancient art of twiddling their thumbs.

It’s rough right now, but sometimes you gotta ride out the storm before you hitch your wagon to a new trail. Sit tight, keep your boots dry, and when the time’s right, move on.

When this happened to me, I knew it was time to "quietly quit". This was a few years ago. Quiet Quitting is a job -- if you take it seriously. I started upskilling myself -- taking or scanning almost every Pluralsight course. I begin reading some books about setting a career. With the website https://businessmodelyou.com/, I began creating my business model. One thing I discovered is that I wasn't helping anyone at my WF job. It was hard at first learning and then knowing all this stuff without having to use it. I did get laid off (sooner than I thought I would). I did find another job. I have been promoted twice now and very happy. Have faith.

I had the same experience. I had held out for a bit hoping that it would change, unfortunately it just got worse. There was a reorg change and my new manager was worse than the old one. I left the company. After leaving I realized just how toxic it was at Wells. I knew it when I was there, but being away from it and seeing what else is out there really showed me how bad it was. Leaving was the healthiest move I did for myself.
