So I am interviewing with Fiserv and wondering.... There was not any test of hard skills for engineering related roles and I'm through the final round. Are the people I will work with going to be competent or passionate? I don't really have other options because this market su-ks; I am concerned that I wasn't given a real technical test like most jobs through the whole process so it feels like anyone could bullsh-t their whole way through. So being passionate at my job and wanting to work with people like minded, I am worried that I'll work with people who are not qualified as that is a big problem in some sh-t enterprise software companies. Especially because this is a high level IC role, I don't want to be babysitting people in corporate America if the place is not meritocratic for people who are passionate and want to do good work. Life is short.
What do you think of your colleagues? Are they staying on top of their game and know things about the industry? Do you need to hand hold people or are people acting like adults? Or am I going to be a janitor of people who don't give a fu-k about how they spend a big chunk of their day. I am wondering if I just got lucky that nobody has asked me to do any real coding or real system design work on my interview or not. Just really hoping that people excel at what they do here and its not one of those places where people are seat warming and there is no brain neurons firing. I have between this and another job, so neither seem amazing but it seems at least with the new CEO things have been moving in a good direction on this board and am hopeful that I won't be wasting my time dealing with more than average incompetence -- or people who don't care to manage.
Thank you.
