US signals intention to rethink job H-1B lottery

https://www.theregister.com/2025/07/20/h_1b_job_lottery/

TLDR; Nike’s contracting firms are going to lose the majority of their staff. Nike will lose 9 out of every 10 ETW.

Does our leadership have a plan for how we keep the company running through this transition?

The Register is consistently wrong about how hiring works in the US (since they're a UK publication). This administration is going to "rethink" it all right: they're going to give even more American jobs to H1Bs. This is the playbook. JDV's wife is an H1B. US firms are going to be staffed 40% with onshore H1Bs, 50% with offshore equivalents, and 10% with globally distributed tech bro overlords. That means 0% for regular Americans.

I could see dozens. Maybe a hundred H1B hired on offshore. But we’re talking about thousands of pseudo employees here. Assuming they all moved home and decided to keep working for us we would still lose a ton of FTE that don’t want to deal with 5am daily calls.

Buckle up buckaroos. We’re about to be flooded with college interns while also trying to reclaim lost institutional knowledge.

Just like the Trump 1.0, they just made FTE H1Bs to move to India and work from there. I know at least 5 that had that happen.

Just need to dust off the old playbook.
