Hartford office workers need new badges by 9/1. Does this mean what I think it means?

Employees assigned to the Hartford office received an email yesterday saying they need to get new badges by 9/1, and the current badges will be deactivated at that time. They didn’t say anything about a return to the office happening, but with everything else going on I have to wonder if that’s the reason.

A few years ago the office was downsized from 10-15 floors down to 3, so there physically isn’t room for everyone right now. Unless they re-purchase the old floors, which are currently vacant.

@OP
It means - "We are updating the technology" (not getting ready to RIF you out)

@OP Just went through this. We went from having two separate badges to one. Your photo will be on the new badge. They used my outdated photo that is like 8/9 years old as they already had it on file. Also - the old badge technology was old, so this is just an upgrade. Do not read anything into it.

It’s because old badges have2 cards - photo ID and card to swipe. With new badge you get a single card with photo print on it.

My remote building did that last year. Had to get new ID's because the property got bought by new management. No RTO.

I’m a full time employee at a non-Minnesota office (don’t want to provide too much information)

We had to submit photos and got new IDs. It seems like we are about 3-4 months ahead of you. We don’t have a Return to office policy.

One of the big reasons for the upgrades is the old IDs that i had for over 5 years didn’t have a photo.
