Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

8 hours in office now required?

Was told Charlie is telling his leadership to communicate down that we all must be in the office the full eight hours for the three in office days? Anyone else being told this? We have also been told individual productivity is being tracked through a report that is tracking time spent working in different applications, tools, MS Office products, mouse clicks, and so on. Anyone else hearing the same?

@1c6 I’ve said this before, but would we really be surprised if “minor logistical issues” like not enough desks is of no concern to the c-suite when making blanket proclamations from on high? Maybe I’m just jaded but I could totally see them deciding they want 5 days a week, for 8 hours every day, and just saying “figure it out” when questioned about capacity at particular locations. Honestly they might see it as a good thing because then people will have to come in at 7 am to secure a desk and they can tell us “you still have to stay until 5”, so they get unpaid OT that way. And the people who can’t come in that early the hope will quit once they get sick of never having their own desk. That way they get headcount down further without having to pay out severance; the privileged few they actually care about keeping can just be given assigned desks.

@hz We are packed to the gills at CIC in my department, starting tuesdays and getting worse on Wednesday. They literally don't have enough space to make that happen.

Doesn't this same story get regurgitated every 2 weeks by the same person who likes to go into the office and feels slighted that he sees people not complying with a rule that only exists in his own head?

Probably the same guy who tattled on all of us all through school.

@ex we don’t have enough space for 5 days in my region. We have a lot of A week B week.

We were told “a full day” months ago, without being given any further clarification on what exactly qualifies as one.

As far as the tracking Microsoft App use thing goes, do I need to remind everyone that Charlie is on the Microsoft BoD?

Can't one just open a fake teams meeting and keep it open all day every day?

Look up theta lake integrations with MS/Teams. The tracking goes far beyond productivity.

good luck enforcing the 8 hours on exempt employees. and good luck ever seeing an official policy. it remains vague and up to each LOB to do with the guidance as they please. Unless I hear otherwise from my leadership I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

@ey JPM, Morgan Stanley, Goldman S, stifel Nicholas, are all 5 days now. Fidelity is 2 weeks 5 days in office per month, BofA is still mix of hybrid if not client facing but getting stricter. Unfortunately the hybrid days seem to be dwindling in the financial industry. :(

...and that's one of the few reasons people are willing to work here. There ain't a lot of other good reasons. Shart said it himself, it's a competitive advantage.

Aternity is for hardware/software performance monitoring, not user activity monitoring.

Why would anyone want to work for this firm? The CEO is an id--t and the financial advisors are morally suspect.

@ex actually, I think JPM is the only bank pushing it.

The big catchwords right now since the asset cap was lifted are “growth” & “high performing teams”. I would not be surprised at all at 8 hours in office or even going back to 5 days in office. We are one of the few financial firms that is holding out doing hybrid.

The productivity monitoring tool used by WF is Celonis process mining, to my knowledge. Its not used everywhere, its in pockets and at the behest of managers. It does give insight into each application opened and the amount of time you spend interacting with it.

I have no insight about the 8 hour requirement.

Don't know about the 8 hours, but we've been told a lot about the productivity monitoring. The intent is to determine how many hours you're actually at your computer. I believe this monitoring has actually been going on for years, but now they're telling us about it in the hopes that some people will quit.

I’m too busy in the office collaborating and having water cooler discussions ti do much in Teams. I hope that is not used against me. If I wfh I can stay in Teams all day to get my stats up.

No one pushing RTO should be expecting increased production, that's all I know for sure. They can track away, I have nothing to hide and it's their PC.

My last two managers don’t spend more than 4 hours in the office.

Productivity monitoring is useless for many positions. They can’t monitor the time I’m diagramming on a white board or having an in person discussion.

If this is really true, Jessica Norton better start looking for her next job.. She is a great leader but keeps her schedule full just attending meetings where she is just fly on the wall even though she logs 8-9 hours.

I’ve never had a 9 to 5 job but used to come in 8 to 5/6. That was before I had to get up early to work with India or state late to work with California workers. You want me to do all my work in the office? Then pay me an investment bankers salary. Otherwise, CS, go fu-k yourself.

As previously stated that productivity tracking has been used in certain parts of the company for a while now. Usually its used paranoid micromanagers who want to know what their employees do every second of every day. As far as the in office requirements execs have been saying that for a while now despite what studies show.

They currently do that and a list is sent to your manager showing how many “Hrs” you work a day. It all based on usage of MS Office Products, apps and mouse clicks.
