My team got, impacted, without analyzing anything about the resource performance and contribution to the team. Don't know whether these lay offs management contacted my reporting manager(director) before taking decision. 3 out of 8 were let go though we had contracts till May 2026. This comes after dim the lights (no pay week) week. Notice period is like 8days . Dint like the way they treated etw's here and best part is 2 of stay in Beaverton closer to campus where as those 5 working remote still have there contracts intact. Should have saved money working remotely from a low cost of living cities here. Had to leave with heavy heart. Thanks

Does it make sense that there's resistance to letting go poor performing ETWs? Most are good but I've never seen a company ignore a bad fit contractor for a year or two before I joined.
@ky+1k02g1w33 Yes you can. Literal alt be laid off from your agency because the contracts have dried up
ETWs can’t be laid off
@j7 not an assumption… if you use a computer to do the same thing more than 3 times, that thing can likely be automated. I actually can’t think of a role that isn’t account facing or customer facing that couldn’t be made more productive with automation. Merch would be one of the easiest roles to automate with well annotated end-to-end data from product to planning/sales. All info pass through functions to decision making functions can be automated.
@hn+1k02g1w33 Who says ETWs can be automated? My role is hardly copy/paste. Most ETW I know are filling merch and product and ops functions for maternity leave or medical cover or staff extension for a special project. All the roles are pretty similar to FTE as I’ve been an FTE in these functions as well.
Man people make a lot of mis assumptions
It’s never about performance my friend it’s about cost savings. Lots of exceptional and highly successful tenured former FTEs with institutional knowledge at other brands right now due to JD layoffs.
ETW roles are most likely roles to be automated these days. If your job involves data entry or copy and paste or two monitors it can likely be done more efficiently with technology. I just hope there are enough non-engineers who understand AI/ML that can steer the ship in the right direction so the business doesn’t get watered down by bad tech for techs sake. I also hope they aren’t listening to non-engineers pretending to understand these things but have never actually trained a low code ML model.

H1Bees can’t spell. Americans can’t either.
@e0 who are you ? FTE by birth ?
To the person who says etw's should be fired anytime blah blah: There's so much of bad management at every level. Let's see how things end up next year.
Indians and Chinese ETW are way cheaper. Also some kid who still lives with Mom or in their car can live on almost nothing compared to expensive US folks
OP - you are bringing entitlement similar to Nike FTE. As many mentioned, ETW are flexible help and can be removed any time. Same applies to all the FTE as well, only difference FTE will get severance.
ED&I is in shambles under new leader and with the recent re-org. So much duplication in that org. All the leaders should be fired.
@dm that’s an interesting way to say you’re not an ETW. Nike does track our performance (we have KPI’s to meet and report on). As far as job security goes, we know we’re here based on a contract and that it can be terminated. I’ve been on a contract for over 8 years and have grown in my role and career during my time here. It’s quite dismissive to act like we don’t have value outside specific tasks or that we don’t make the most out of our connections on the Nike account. Anyone would be disappointed to learn their job is being cut whether you’re an ETW or FTE.
am an fte who dodged the layoffs since JD's 2 billion dollar cost savings email,I think a little bit of empathy should be needed irrespective of etw or fte, rather than saying etw's birth right is to get fired at any time, lol, It's not a rule written on the stone, the amount of crazy sh-t going on in different orgs be it a recent fte converse tech scam we are hearing in the threads, SEC initiative scam, and certain ongoing shady procedures in recruiting in different orgs (thanks to rat btw), so compared to all of these, this abrupt firing of etw or fte irrespective of performance factor should not be taken for granted by our fellow commenters,
Bottomline: stfu and blame leadership for everything lol
Thank you for responses, fact is ETW'S are just contractors. Agree with you all.
For real, ETWs are employed to maintain workforce flexibility. I have no idea how you can complain about this.
As an ETW you are FLEXIBLE help. Your performance doesn’t matter. They don’t track your performance or give reviews because you are not an employee. Just do what asked and don’t be terrible at it and that’s the job. You are there because they can do exactly what they did here which is use the same flexibility they did to add you in order to roll you off.
Being an ETW contractor never should be viewed as steady work or a career with the same expectation of security as an FTE. I cannot understand why ETW’s expect to have that security. It’s literally what you are agreeing to when you sign up for the ETW role then get upset when they handle it as every company handles ETW’s.
I have no idea why you all are surprised. This is how it works everywhere. We are SHIFTING STRATEGY, back to product and innovation and back to sport. We are no longer claiming to be a “tech company”.
This means: some areas get cut and some areas get more. Sometimes this means ETW and FTE are no longer needed as other things are re prioritized.
Literally every company does this, that anyone here is surprised needs to take business 101
Performance has almost ZERO bearing on layoff decisions, unless you got a Needs Improvement (or whatever they changed that to).
You are just a number on an Excel spreadsheet.
I don't say this to be snippy or mean, but instead to reassure you that well... it's not how hard you worked or how you worked or any of those things. It's just work politics combined with Excel Accounting combined with new management making changes to "prove" how good they are with pretty much ZERO knowledge of the org.
@OP what you talk about happens all the time to FTE’s.
The point of ETWs is so that they can be terminated at any time for any reason.
ED&AI
@OP which org?
@ae it happened last week.
@OP it happened across most of the orgs last month, are you talking about that one? Or is it happened like last week?
