Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Scaling back the staples Dunk, AF1 and Air Jordan’s - one failure after another

Nike walking away from what the kids are wearing. Every decision so far is only nailing the coffin tighter. I personally don’t see Nike reigning supreme ever again. Focusing on high dollar shoes instead of the average consumer that cares about affordability and simple style in this economy won’t work out well.

@f5 It is pretty apparent that you never saw when Nike was growing at 30 percent every year. I was around those days.

Yes, Nike is biggest company around, it is Giant but fallen one.
Yes, they have the market share.
But their sale is going down 10 percent last few years. Not going up 30 percent

If I gave anyone creampie everyday, eventually everyone will say "enough" at some point in time!! That is human nature, specially fashion wise.

What Nike upper management needs to understand that you cannot give AF1, Dunks or AJs everymonths in 10 different colors ways and expect people to buy every month.

You have to come out with core products that are new and cutting edge backed by good ad campaign. And keep excitement going with limited release of legacy products.
But somewhere along the way (during MP's tenure) they forgot about it and kept feeding classic product over and over again until public said NO MORE. And JD kicked another notch higher when it comes to release of classic products.

I know many kids and young people who were really into legacy release and spent most of their money in Nike shoes as investment but got burned.
I asked them, if Nike gets hot again, would you invest your money on classics again?
All of their reply is "not sure" or "not really". They got wiser. LOL
EH got his work cut out.

I should add that “Find Your Greatness” was run during a recession. Which is also when Flyknit was created, followed by Tech Fleece which are both still embedded as staples in the assortment today.

OP it’s as if you don’t understand Nike’s business model at all. The second Nike makes simple affordable style the goal it’s lost the plot entirely. It’s an aspirational brand, always has been. JD d-mbed down the marketing and distribution. Marketing and distribution are the game, you can’t run a “Find Your Greatness” campaign using simple affordable sneakers. It’s bad enough they’ve gotten back into bed with the least partner friendly brand which is Amazon who also d-mbs down marketing and distribution but that’s where the simple affordable sneakers will go.

Nike isn’t trying to be Skechers.

One of the recent issues has been the loss of scarcity of these models you note. Scarcity breeds demand but that balancing act is more art than science. Ubiquitous, over saturated product can lead to diminished cool factor.
