I write this as today my Line Manager told me I need stop being helpful in the organisation and start following the department goals.
HIS manager had dictated this upon him also.
Minute I told my spouse....his reaction so you have to perform so your manager get his bonus.
He doesn't care about the Projects and Production performance like you do.

Sounds like you have heard from 2 levels to follow the bouncing ball so do it they sign your checks.
That would depend on your manager wanting the team to succeed or him to succeed...
if you're not working on goals that contribute to team performance then why are you in that team?
