Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do layoffs ever happen during midyear review?

I don't mean coincidentally, where the layoff just happened to occur the same day/week as the midyear.

I asking if a layoff if ever built into a midyear review?

Everyone knows that layoffs aren't always strictly budget. It's also used to get rid of people where termination would be messier.

Yes. Happened to me last year. Laid off end of June. Manager said I was doing a great job and my position was eliminated due to budget cuts. A little over a month later a poor mid year review that I had no idea about and never seen before showed up in my files. They obviously thought that I no longer had access and I wouldn't know they bad review was written behind my back to justify laying me off.

I have not had a manager for 6 months. Just have been doing what I interpret by myself as best for WF and my internal customers. I hope there is no correlation between MY reviews and layoffs.

Yes. Wells Fargo is a rank and yank place. Before they yank you, you may have the worst review ever. I found out I was supposed to be doing stuff that no one ever assigned to me. I didn't even know what the project was? Searched through the email an hour before the call. Nothing.

plus most rank and file managers don't know who's getting laid off until close to the actual date so at this point mid years ratings are locked and managers can start sharing this Monday only for you to get laid off shortly after.

No, MY review can’t have a termination embedded in it

Layoff/termination is a separate event.

I have yet to have my mid-year review so no idea. Maybe I’ll get the review along with a layoff.
