Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Still struggling after layoff

I was laid off last month after 15 years. It almost felt like going through a divorce. I had a few interviews since then and I was actually asked why I only worked one place. Is that where we're at? Is loyalty seen as a flaw now? How do people even begin to rebuild after this?

Use the loyalty to your advantage as others have said by focusing on the multiple skills and various jobs you had over that time.

Never stay loyal to a company! 5 year max then move on!

@OP sorry to say, yes that's the climate we're in. Get your experience and go. Many companies are laying off their most seasoned workers. Always try to move up or learn something new but this is not the day and age where u stay 20-30 years and retire sadly.

First you are right where you need to be. It’s a process. Be patient with yourself use Right Management, they will help you sell yourself. They will also help you get your “sea legs”, help you unpack this place and gain confidence! In the meantime take a mental break, you don’t know when the next time you have the privilege to be off the Plantation and remember who you are.

I was laid off after 10 years. It's been the hardest thing to recover from. I've started a new job and have major trust issues. It's hard to relax on the job. Nobody mean anything. Its a hard adjustment but I know I will come out stronger.

This post (and some of the comments in it) are "must reads" for all those employees that say "I can't wait til they lay me off". The job market is tough and being unemployed is incredibly stressful. My advice to those that are unhappy in any job in any company has always been..."Keep looking for jobs while you have a job". Keep your options open because we are all "At Will" employees...we can leave jobs or be let go from jobs for any reason...or no reason.
Also, take advantage of any training that the company offers. I have personally
taken a number of the courses offered at Elevance through the Skills Academy. I have to request time from my manager to do it but the more I can enhance my resume the better. Elevance s**ks but at least for now I have a job while looking for my next role.

So I was Rif'd after >20 years. When i've been asked about my time, I highlight that change was constant. That my job description and duties changed often, and the department I worked in changed. Then I lead them through those changes and how I adapted and gained new skills. I will say this, in this 2nd half of my career, I will be moving companies for more money about every 2-3 years. I was underpaid by Anthem.

@ar So true. I have had some many doctors rant about how much they hate working with this company.

Yep. It takes time to heal the mental wound. I still get together with the folks I worked with as they’ve been friends more than coworkers over the years. The company itself, it was just a job. I miss the pay, benefits, and the mental focus of the job; but not the kick in the teeth that I got on the way out the door. Still looking for the right job match. Hang in there.

If you worked at Anthem or whatever the heck it is called this week for 15 yrs some potential employers wonder why you stayed at such a toxic place. Go to see your MD and mention that you work there and anticipate a 15 minute rant of how much they hate the company. Not respected .

it seems current social/corporate culture no longer values personal
Ethics/Morals, Loyalty, Honor, Respect, Integrity, Courage, Consistency

perhaps we’ve now seen the state of affairs devolve to the law of the jungle

The answer you shouldve responded with is that it was a great place to work with a great team. Thats an easy question to answer even if its a lie.

i was laid off after 28 years! it has been 6 months and i am just starting to mentally feel ok. Don’t let them have that power over you! They are truly not worth it and try to refocus and move forward. it’s our only option! it will be ok❤️
