Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Nepotism

Sure it happens at other jobs. But just so tired of people hiring friends and fam but telling everyone else no promotions or pay increase because there’s no money left at AT&T.

When the CEO has blatant nepo daughter there in Dallas with him in a high position in the company . . . . . do you expect anything else?

At a recent meeting someone read off "title change" (not level changes) promotions. Said that you should be patting your bosses on the back for standing up for you since the company doesn't like to promote people.

Came off as more thanking the manager than the employee for the promotion.

I was on the promote ready now list for district and a vp had to get his side piece out of
st louis in the day. So she was promoted, moved to dallas and received a huge raise.
With no degree, and no talent other than horizontal moves - she spent the day reading newspapers and magazines and shopping.
With my EE degree, I was stranded as an AM for 3 more yrs before promotion.
Yep. It's who you know or related to. Who is married and has to get the side piece out of Dodge in a hurry.

Yes, but the new way is promoting and progressing and not telling anyone but why? At one time we would celebrate each others wins and take them to lunch etc. Now a lot of this happens under the table. Is it because they are worried what others will think of the candidates they promoted did not deserver it? Well the answer is a resounding yes.

I know someone that got moved from Unified Communications to BVOIP/IPFLEX at the Arlington Heights location since his cousin is a manger. Sad part is the majority of the folks on the UC side got laid off. They never had a chance to even interview of the BVOIP position. Its who you know.

It is not just “who you know”, but (also) who ya bl0w. The person has to be willing to really ‘go to bat’ for you.

Man this is just the way of the world. Do you really think getting to the top is all about hard work and being the smartest person in the room? Did the people at the top even start where we did? Nope. Always has been and always will be about connections.
