Companies cut jobs when profits soar, so there's more left to share at the top. And when profits fall? They still cut, so there's still something to share at the top. If you're an employee without equity, you're not part of any profit-sharing arrangement. But you're always part of the reorganizations and layoffs. Never for your benefit, mind you.

Terrible take. First of all, I’d say a majority of FTEs are shareholders. Secondly just because there are still Layoffs when the stock is high doesn’t mean there aren’t more layoffs, less spending, slower (if at all) backfills and just an overall grey cloud when the stocks su-ks. Life is easier and better when the stock is high.
We are all shareholders.
