Active Sho-ter Alarm in 1bell

Today was pretty traumatizing to say the least. The fact that the only communications was initially “we don’t know what happened” to then “remember y’all can thank us for online mental health services!!!” is such a slap in the face, after hiding in a storage closet with 30 other people wondering what was happening and if we were going to die today.

Almost 10 yrs ago we had an employee with some kind of mental issues continue arguing with another employee. Boss called HR and they said take his badge and send him home! Myself and another steward tried talking to him but he insisted he could not get fired cause he was on meds. Needless to say he went home, got his handgun and was sitting in the lobby waiting for someone to come out the door so he can go in. Luckily a CSB person stepped out of the elevator, saw him and went back upstairs to call police. He got probation only!!

@ck

Leadership already evaluated THEIR security plans.

Yep. Now that I think about it, no other company location has "Active Sho-ter" Alarms. Just a coinkiydink that it exists where Vestie and Bestie hang their hats.

For those of you I watched stuff yourself into a storage or service escalator room...don't do that again. Stay mobile. If you're still not sure what to do stick with the dudes whose eyes aren't wide as a deer in headlights. Keep your mouth shut unless you need vital information. I don't have time to calm your panic attack. If you're going to be noisy and give away my location I will knock your a-s out and keep moving.

“Tell them Golden Corral has a blue plate lunch special for $7, they will run then. You just need the right incentive 😆🥓“”

LOL!!! Like calling the hogs for slop bin feeding time! 😂

Highly doubtful this was a false alarm. We will never know the truth.

“Imagine the stampede.”

It was a pretty slow moving group. Not many employees were physically able to run.

Some people took the stairs down all the way to 1 and the door was locked from the inside.

This is a serious violation of the fire code. Report them.

“ Good luck when the cops show up”

Ha! When you need the cops, they’re only 30 minutes away. When they show up, they don’t engage until the SWAT team arrives. Depending on the g0v is a huge mistake.

"This kind of stuff is exactly why I wish I could keep a concealed we-pon at the office."

Good luck when the cops show up, see you with a we-pon, and accidentally shoot you.

This kind of stuff is exactly why I wish I could keep a concealed we-pon at the office. Can’t rely on security (a joke) or anyone else to protect me or the people around me. Everyone freaked out and hid.

This will give leadership an opportunity to reevaluate their security plans and make corrections.

Leadership already evaluated THEIR security plans. They installed an active sho-ter alarm for THEIR benefit and THEIR protection. They probably have auto locking doors and a safe room to hide in. The plan for the rest of us is to fend for ourselves. Don’t worry though, you will receive a little email providing you with generic instructions to hide under your cubicle.

This will give leadership an opportunity to reevaluate their security plans and make corrections. If a real threat were to happen in the future, they won’t have any excuses about failure. Even though it was high anxiety for those affected, it may be a blessing in disguise, if a real threat occurs. That is my takeaway from this episode, everyone should be questioning leadership about how it was handled and what are future plans for everyone’s safety.

They were probably hoping somebody pulled a CCW piece as an excuse to terminate.

Does AT&T not have a HSE (health, safety, and environment) department like all other companies do?

I think it’s incredibly disgusting and telling that there is an “active sho-ter” alarm for the benefit of the leaders tucked away in their high tower. You know if the alarm is activated they are safe and are locked down with protected access. Everyone else is left to scramble and fend for themselves, How despicable, but I would not expect anything less from them. Yet another reason to shower at night to wash the filth of this place off your skin.

Apparently somehow the button for the active sho-ter got pushed and an alarm like a fire alarm came on but it said active sho-ter. People went and hid in bathrooms or other areas. Surprisingly there are very few places that lock.

There was no sho-ter. I was in one of the other buildings. No alarms or warnings went off in the other buildings even though 1 and 2 and actually connected. We got messages from other people and hid. Later an alarm went off saying it was all clear.

There was not an actual sho-ter. There was also an all clear email to Dallas employees later.

This post will probably disappear because our feckless leaders don’t want us to know this happened and then have to explain the “false alarm” explanation.

Praying our executives are okay and they weren't on other floors among the peasants at HQ! Imagine they were running away to get away from the riffraff.

Any word if the steel doors went down on floors 4 and 5? Did our security team ensure the Lamborghinis and high-end vehicles are safe in the garages? Praying! Also, did me hiding in closet impact my presence report status? I had to leave my desk for a bit. No mouse movement for a bit and texted my wife while sheltering in place. I'm so, so sorry! Otherwise just a normal day at HQ!!
