A lot couldn’t comply, even if they wanted to. I’m asking for selfish reasons, hoping that if the number is high, there might be fewer people left to be targeted in future layoffs. Maybe it won’t make any difference. But I really need this job right now, and I’m clinging to whatever hope I can find that my chances of keeping it are at least somewhat better.

In the sample size of about 25 people I knew were remote, 2 moved, 3 are still employeed even though they've said they won't relocate, everyone else is gone either through early retirement, resignations, or simply fired.
Every single one had 10+ years at the company (in some cases 20-25 years). I'd agree that centuries of institutional knowledge was lost.
I left because of RTO and 9 hour mandate. couldnt be happier at new place.
The toxic culture at Fiserv was damaging my mental health.
I left due to RTO (even though I WFH with zero problems for 15+ years), badge swipes, Sapience, clueless management, complete disregard for product, clients and employees. I'm now at a place where I'm recognized, annual increase more than double, get bonuses, and they truly care about the product, the clients, and employees. It truly is like night and day...and so glad I made the switch. Just annoyed I waited so long.
I left on the first RTO back in September of 2022. They said I had to come in two days a week. Like he-l I was doing that. I hated that Alpharetta office. Everyone was so cold to each other. No one would talk to anyone. No one would even make eye contact when you pass by them. The coffee they provided was terrible, and the machine was the type where you couldn't bring your own. The other choice was an overpriced Starbucks cafe. I brought Nescafe instant coffee sticks fcs. The desk reservation system was a disaster. The little Logitech mouse receiver was stolen from every desk. Everything about it was awful. I can't imagine what it's like now. They want y'all there 5 days and they monitor badge out times? That is insanity. God Bless all of y'all.
The real question is how many SMEs left? How many centuries of knowledge left?
From my product alone, I would guesstimate that at least 3 centuries worth of knowledge is gone.
90% know little to nothing. 5% get by being self taught and grinding. And the other 5% are stretched too thin to help.
If you want to cling to hope, then cling to the hope that a change in leadership brings a change to the layoff strategy.
It's much higher than you think and we are feeling the pain
Since the original mandate in 2021? I’d wager >40% of the employee base.
Lots. I am looking aggressively now myself. It's just a matter of time....
