On a recent union call, we were advised approximately 400 plus employees on the Bell side were given a surplus notice in Texas.
It looks like the company is chopping away.

@d4 12 COT’s in Houston took that offer. Off the payroll July 12th.
The company continues to enjoy paying a premium price for ssim to do prem tech work.
They don’t enjoy it but due to contract restraints they don’t have much choice. Perhaps you haven’t noticed that a lot of crews are now mostly Prem techs. The regular core work is disappearing and when a core tech leaves that spot is usually replaced with a Prem tech. Live in a fiber area. Unless a fiber is damaged
you don’t need a core tech to restore service or for installation.
“ wish I could attach a bag of rocks to your ankles and throw you in the sea ;-)”
I love your style! 😏
@r6 these are the same people that hit 'reply all' on emails.
some of you are not as smart as a sack of rocks...wish I could attach a bag of rocks to your ankles and throw you in the sea ;-)
Don't mess with Texas. Especially you dirty co-mies.
Not ssim. The company continues to enjoy paying a premium price for ssim to do prem tech work. Guess they aren’t a broke as they say they are.
"Weren’t you also here then?"
No, I was not. What's your point?
“Stankey participated in the decisions that sunk the company. In reality, the company stock is in worse shape than before the T-Mobil debacle. Stock is basically the same price, but the stockholders have lost 2%-3% in dividends.”
Weren’t you also here then?
"Stock is higher than when Randall was here"
Stankey participated in the decisions that sunk the company. In reality, the company stock is in worse shape than before the T-Mobil debacle. Stock is basically the same price, but the stockholders have lost 2%-3% in dividends.
Ed put the pieces together and was treated to a very nice retirement.
Randall couldn’t do anything right and receive half of what Ed got and couldn’t be happier.
JS sees it as a win-win. Stock is higher than when Randall was here, so he sees a nice retirement coming his way. More headcount reductions to keep revenue up and he’s golden.
The rest of us sit here talking about layoffs. Time to do something more with our time.
We can’t, they are at the top. Only the stockholders which are being bought off with stock buybacks despite world’s most leveraged company.
Gettin rid of unneeded workers.
The downfall to this company was in 2005 when the good ol' boys from SBC purchased AT&T. Whitacre had no clue how to position a hyper growth industry into the next century. Likely didn't own a cell phone. ZERO CLUE. Hands it off to another good ol' boy Randall. ZERO CLUE. An epic failure that has been discussed plenty. Who knew everyone under 40 was cord cutting? Randy sure didn't. The future is video content! And now we're with Big John concentrating on fiber and wireless. Both businesses being challenged in space by Amazon, Google, Meta and others. Seem like safe and secure income streams for now but will likely be disrupted by the tech companies mentioned above in <5 years. 5x7.25 and get the he-l out of the office!
District 9, District 9, District 9.
Come on, Baby just do me.
@aw my ex coworker is in the CO. He said they offered severance plus $50k. Other than that I don’t have specifics just passing along truth so quit complaining!!
@d4 I hope we get that same surplus call in the test center cause many would go including me!!
"And the sycophants said the union was foolish by striking for a fair agreement in the SE."
As a management employee who could have been deployed during the strike, I was pulling for the unions. I wanted them to stay out longer and really put the sc--ws to ATT. The big Stank has made unions popular again.
Texas does everything bigger.
It’s about time they cut some of the SBC dead wood. Go get your severance from your Uncle Eddie and RJS since they took your compensation and hit the door running after they fu---d up T to the point where even FUBAR does come close to describing the current T sh-t show.
And the sycophants said the union was foolish by striking for a fair agreement in the SE. Which side of the benefits and work rules would you rather be on now? If you aren’t VP and above, management has gotten the shaft from Stankey and gang.
A list of some benefit reductions, eliminations and more for managers:
We had a call last Friday with a voluntary offer to leave with one year of pay plus $50k. It almost seems like one of those offers that some of you said would never happen...
I wonder what "managers" get when forced to leave, lol.
Will miss some delicious Texas bbq during strike time.
This s*ck$.
Best of luck if you’re impacted.
The company has been offering enhanced severance to various titles to incentivize the 65+ crowd who want to leave or near retirement and those who want to move on. The workforce is being reduced for various reasons including, AI, software and copper to fiber network/transport network which requires less employees. If one has 25+ years service, it works out to nearly 1 year base salary minus taxes.
"Dead weight"
Your dead weight probably some overweight out of shape paper pusher sitting in your office with no business value
@aw some comm techs in Houston in the CO were offered VSP plus $50k extra to leave. I know one of them. I hope they do the same for the test center!! That was Wednesday .
So someone "said" without any details...typical.
There was a Q1 surplus of ~310 in the SE. Q2 was announced with over 100 in the SE. So is this separate, since it was supposedly ALL in TX with no separate notification? When was notice given/posted? When is the effective date? Repeating vague cr-p doesn't do anyone any good.
Stankey rightsizing the ship.
Everything is bigger in Texas
Sadly, the company wants ALL employees to be contractors and offshore workers.
Period
Well atleast your local union communicate with you! We have NEVER had a meeting for the Mobility side!
Come on D9!
Hook us Comm Techs up with an offer
Dead weight
