Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

are the layoffs about cost? or just clawing back rsus?

Honest question --- are these layoffs really about cost? Or are they about reclaiming unvested RSUs? top performers typically hold more equity, which ironically puts a target on their backs when finance starts looking for the proverbial savings.

i’ve got four rsu grants set to vest in september, and i wouldn’t be surprised if i’m shown the door before then. doesn’t seem to matter that i’m covering the work of three people. Indvidual performance rarely stands a chance when spreadsheets are calling the shots...

Yeah, I think Oracle might have some lawyers on staff that know exactly how to handle your suggestion. But whatever helps you sleep at night, have at it.

I figure, if that happens, I’d get a lawyer. It would become such a pain for them to deal with it that they may just award the stock anyway.

"Depends. What team/BU are you on?"

Some haven't figured it out yet! Surprised?

Cancelling RSUs is definitely a major consideration. I have personally known 3 high level people who had a lot of RSUs (2 IC6's and one M7), and who during large re-orgs were given termination dates that were 24-72 hrs before the vesting dates for big chunks of RSUs, which just went "poof" on their term dates. On the other hand, after 22 yrs at Oracle, and witnessing lots of "good bye" notes from RIF'ed colleagues over those years, I never saw one case where a former colleague during a RIF was given a small extension on their term date so their RSUs could vest first.

It’s definitely about clawing back RSU’s.
