Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Remove performance, enter toxicity

All the negativity and toxicity is definitely tied to so many lay offs where outcome was not tied to performance.
When you know your work quality doesn’t make you safer, you look for other things to focus on.
Please HR and leaders:
Make performance matter again!

Performance-based decisions? That might have been true a decade ago at Nike. Today, favoritism seems to play a much larger role—especially following the conversion of ETWs into mid-senior level roles.
CD, for instance. Once an ETW himself, he transitioned to an FTE and eventually rose to Senior Director. After that, he facilitated the conversion of several ETWs—many of whom were arguably not well-suited for the roles—into FTE positions, even appointing some as Principal Engineers and Managers.
It’s surprising to see some of these individuals still in place despite multiple rounds of layoffs.
This situation raises serious questions about the true criteria behind these layoffs.
Reducing headcount is understandable, but it needs to be done with purpose and impact. Nike could learn a great deal from how true corporate approach such decisions.
Need to grow or founders should take a control.

We have leaders that wouldn’t know good performance if it dropped 30, 10, and 10 in the finals… Great thought, can’t see it in practice.

Lol, implying that leadership could be trusted to actually quantify what "performance" means

There’s a difference between macro performance and micro performance.

You can be the best shoe li---r in the business but if Nike can’t make a profit selling pre-licked shoes anymore it’s time to pivot your career.

The writing was on the wall for the majority of the teams and leadership roles that were let go.

HR at Nike is pathetic. They are casing some of these problems and holding Nike back.

Imagine this outcome when employees realize their performance reviews don’t matter.
