Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I made a mistake joining

Nike runs on micromanagement and fear. I came in fresh out of college, excited to contribute, but they treat entry-level employees like liabilities. It doesn’t matter if you bring fresh ideas - your opinion won’t reach anyone who matters. I expected so much when I joined, but now I just feel disillusioned.

It is funny one thing I noticed during my 8 years at Nike is that when people joined Nike their enthusiasm was through the roof and by the time they were inevitably laid off or left for a different job they were at at a very low level of morale. I’ve worked in a lot of different industries including finance and usually people start with a pretty low level of morale and end with a lower level, but this gap of enthusiasm at the start and the rock bottom engagement when you inevitably depart is almost unique to Nike. One caveat for entry level person - it is even worse for management because they tell you when you come that you can do something and make change and then you realize you have almost no power to make an impact in the matrix, and they they have you lay off half your team anyways (you have the power to do that). For a staff person, you should feign enthusiasm for every idea your boss has and just kind of keep your head down.

OP - Keep looking for better opportunities and leave as soon as you find something. Nike veterans have become toxic due to what happened to their beloved company during last few years.
