IT, Finance and Commercial are expected to layoff ~300 people in 2 waves starting with IT in early Q3 2025. A majority of operational support for IT will be moved to outsourced providers. Major IT restructuring will be done using the “spans and layers” concept suggested by BCG to reduce management layers.

@OP With the MeSH unit shutting down in Borger how much head count reduction is expected? I wonder when they are going to start laying people off probably right before Christmas!
I wouldn’t be surprised if more “optimizations” are coming. Watch out for reliance on overseas engineering support, more aggressive performance reviews, eventually shutting down older underperforming units, cost cutting initiatives on small line items and programs, no investment projects/big budget cuts, poor morale across sites. Keep your head on a swivel and don’t expect cpchem to be who they use to be. It’s going to be a rough couple of years and I doubt they care about retention right now.
@209e I would also add, at one point I felt Leadership would be genuinely concerned if I left, now I think they would be happy for the savings
@2045 doesn't feel like it's moving in the right direction. Everyday it's more evident that the rug will be ripped out under your feet. Morale is awful. Seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It is exhausting.
My question is for everyone... how does it feel to still work for a shy company (that was once great), that has only become more shy after layoffs and reorgs? It seems like a mess has been made of each area that the company has touched, which is largely every function of the business. Does anyone think that things are moving in the right direction?
Many times I have seen the following to be true; it is not what you know but who you know. In some cases in CPC it's also who you b**w.
@1w8m I’ve seen people skipped over a management position because they didn’t have a college degree, despite decades of experience for the roles they would manage. It’s important to some people 🤷♂️
@1w71 what cuts to upper management? Is this new or the ones that happened last year? And why does a college degree matter to you so much? It more about work ethic and drive less about a degree
@1q43 Whoever gave us the heads-up about the layoffs and said they would eventually start eliminating upper-management positions was correct. Thanks for the warning—it certainly looks like that prediction was accurate.
I do find it interesting, however, that the CIO, whose educational background is in accounting, remains in her position, while her sister was recently promoted to a management role despite not having a college degree. Given the layoffs and changes taking place throughout upper management, the situation certainly raises questions about the criteria being used to determine who stays, who goes, and who gets promoted.
I know Sweeny was impacted. Does anyone know if other plants were affected? Any specific groups they are going after? I am starting to get scared.
@1ptm yes today. :(
@1ppm assuming that is today?
@1pjp Process engineers and some retirement packages.
@1pha It’s SUPER aggravating that HQ and the plants both say more changes are coming, but they’re making us wait what seems like forever to find out who will be impacted. We’ve been told more changes are coming for 6 months, maybe even a year. Meanwhile, we’re stressing out wondering if we’ll still have a job after the re-orgs. What a morale booster…… NOT! It comes across like they don’t know what they’re gonna do - probably because they don’t.
LT are still going through the reorg process. They did not realize how different each facilty is and are trying to figure out who to cut and who to keep. They did not learn their lesson from the first or second time. Insanity.
@1mhp who will be affected?
4th qrtr layoffs.
Earliest would be 2027.
@1f75 it’s mid June and there were no layoffs?
@1jbq 2 weeks. That's if they offer it.
Someone mayve already said, but how many weeks of severance were paid for each year worked? Trying to run the numbers if my job gets axed. LOL
This thread is still going strong... a year later.. .wow
@1fct Idk either. Between change management, business transformation, transition management… There’s a lot of stuff out there that looks like they’re still looking at shakeups.. At this point it’s just a game of wait and see. Can’t get anything out of anybody. They hint at more changes coming then keep everybody in the dark for months on end until it snowballs and people hit the road.
Can someone explain Change Management and Business Transformation? I’m sure they’re completely different things but I’m not exactly sure what they are. Do they involve cutting jobs?
@1f8m the low performers or “lagging”
@1f75 what does bottom 10% mean?
End of May or June will be more annoucement of layoffs. They aren't done cutting. The bottom 10% plus retirees will be next.
Which part of the business will be impacted?
Another round of layoffs by the end of May.
@OP he’s choosing Texas I can tell…
@19bx Yes, discussions are ongoing with former and certain current HR employees in coordination with opposing counsel.
700 replies and 200k views, what an epic thread hahaha
What’s the latest on the HR internal investigation?
The company took an incredible turn in 2015 when they hired the most inept HR people period. B as a lead on investigations was a sham an tons of hairbrained outcomes.
@16re they will probably layoff the redundancies and expect staff to travel between sites like they do with IT.
Well, just saw that Port Arthur and Orange plants are merging. Wonder how this will impact those folks. Any thoughts?
@15c8…that’s awesome! They should start with L.M., she’s the worst.
Rumor has it from a reliable source that the HR “Mean Girls” bullying culture may soon be facing accountability. Former HR employees are being contacted and are prepared to provide statements. Karma has a way of catching up.
Are there any silent layoff that was never announced?
@zp6
Not the end of the cuts. If you listen to what was said previously, that was all for the business transformation layoffs. That means the outsourced layoffs the next cuts are just cuts with no outsourcing. Got to read between the lines.
Leadership is a joke
