Thread regarding Chevron Phillips Chemical layoffs

2025 Layoffs in Q3

IT, Finance and Commercial are expected to layoff ~300 people in 2 waves starting with IT in early Q3 2025. A majority of operational support for IT will be moved to outsourced providers. Major IT restructuring will be done using the “spans and layers” concept suggested by BCG to reduce management layers.

@jmv there are layoffs coming in November- I was told so they are definitely not through

There will be no more layoffs. This was all the CIOs idea. Notice how no other layoffs have occured in other departments like anticipated. She's going to fix all of CPChem financial wise all in her own. How's that LTI working out for you babe?

@jd1
As someone who was laid off, I can simply say that I hated it. But the severance, the RRA account, the unemployment and extended healthcare is as good as any company Layoff benefits I have ever seen. Luckily, the Old CPChem culture stayed intact long enough to do me a good turn. It could have been a lot worse.

@jhw as has been stated repeatedly on here - HR is a mean girls club and it has a stamp of approval by the LT- a train wreck of a department but nothing will ever change

@jg7…The leadership in HR is trash and Blacks don’t last long in that department!

@jdm no one is missing the point. Read the hundreds and hundreds of messages. Mismanaged, poor HR, good ol boys club, bad decisions, people in wrong spots. Some spots have racism, some spots have favoritism, some spots have just plain ignorance. It’s a mess all over. It is amazing there is a board, and HR that would let it get to this point.
This is a company that deserves a documentary on how bad things were ran and the clique that toppled it.

So you are missing the point! It should not matter who you are as long you have the necessary qualifications. This country has a dark past and requirements was put in place for a reason! You may be taking about HQ and we are talking about the Plants. In the Plants all IT managers and supervisors were white for a very long time. Who do you think they hire? Who do you think got the special hook-up? Who do think get to show up at the office when they they feel like it or get to call in sick regular?

@jd6 minorities have a much better chance of moving up than white people. Just look at supply chain. All promotions have been minorities

Yep! We saw someone get 6 figures with no B.S and no IT Certifications. Maybe because they fit a certain skin tone! We know minorities don't get those hook-up!

So CEO says the culture has changed and so it is to blame.
Agreed, change in culture lead to current CIO getting her job with just a degree in accounting.
Add to it the downgrade of eligibility requirements for lot of positions.
When a CIO gets a job with no clear qualifications, it emboldens every one of her cronies.
So one of the CIO cronies starts hiring outsiders with no technical knowledge and brings them as architects.
Mind you these d-mb ases new hires never saw SAP screens in their life but start masquerading as architects.
They will survive as long as they keep lic
ing their boss a-s. Because they bring their sh---y cultures from WITCH companies,
this leads to CPChem culture digression. No more iCARE or integrity as long as your head is in your boss's as, you will survive. These d-mb ases keep getting promotions while real contributors who bring home the bacon are let go.
When you let go people managing mission critical systems but keep these d-mbasses, what does it imply? Are there any kickbacks?
Also as said in these forums when a c-suite guy start having affair with HR executive, what does it imply? It is from just two departments. Others said a lot more.

Whole culture has gone through the drain. and so does the company.

@ja7 yeah and if they don’t happen in Dec maybe Jan, and if not Jan well maybe Feb.

Lol come on guys stop it.

NO ONE KNOWS!
No one knows who is safe and who isn’t
No one knows what’s for sale and what isn’t
No one knows what teams ROCE is better
No one knows Jack.
No one posting on this board anyway.

All we know is leadership failed. Now they are tossing people out like garbage. We know this company has some massive flaws. Those failures and flaws are still in charge and as long as they are anything goes.

@j5b It is true that they are interested in buying Chevron Phillips but it does not mean they will right now. As far as layoffs if it does not happen in November, more than likely it will happen in December. They could be putting off layoffs to see how many they can scare into leaving. It is anyone's guess. Can you blame people for wanting job security?

@j1s saying Borger has the best ROCE in the company while seeing layoffs, the worst financial times in the company is like saying you have the shiniest wheel on a the ugliest car. What is it that you think you are bragging about?
Tell us this magic number!

@j0y Yes, I've heard the same thing, it's coming in November after a slight delay as it was supposed to happen in October. Kind of cr-ppy to do this right before the holidays but I guess there's never a great time to get canned!

@j1s where are you guys getting the numbers at? How are you seeing the ROCE of each plant or product line?

by

Post ID: @j34+1jy0j4b3c

@e6t Borger continues to have the best ROCE in the company. The problem is that the total profit just too small to carry CPChem when PE is down. Shutting diwn would be a stupid decision but selling is always a possibility.

@fxm AIP is a special bonus incentive designed to reward higher level managers so that they aren’t solely reliant on the performance of the scrubs for their bonuses. Just another example of how not everyone plays by the same rules.

@ffp I don’t see how they could pay EIP or make a pension contribution for anyone this year. EIP is for what’s going well, nothing is going well. The company is floundering. But I’d be willing to bet the executives that orchestrated this mess still get their AIP payout.

@fpw is right we were spoiled. Wow, folks, I think we have all been way too harsh on Chevron Phillips. Instead of complaining about being laid off maybe we should be thanking them for everything they have done for us.

Who cares if half the workforce over 40 suddenly became redundant. That just clears up space for the important investments like opening brand new pickleball courts at HQ. Nothing says operational excellence like executives in polos slapping a plastic ball around while the rest of us pack our desks.

And let’s not forget the artisan baristas they brought in. Sure, we can’t afford groceries now, but at least someone is still whipping up seven dollar lattes for the chosen few. Priorities, right.

Nepotism. Where else can you watch someone’s cousin get promoted three levels in a year with zero qualifications. That is called culture and we should be proud to witness it firsthand.

So yes, let’s stop the negativity. Thank you Chevron Phillips for reminding us what really matters. Pickleball. Coffee foam art. Making sure layoffs are strategically timed to trim the expensive people.

Truly inspirational.

@fhy If you’re fully vested, your current benefits are protected. However, if the plan is underfunded and the PBGC maximum limit applies, everyone could end up with reduced benefits. United Airlines and Bethlehem Steel are 2 examples of what happens when the plan is underfunded. As long as you think of pension benefits as extra money for retirement and aren’t basing your quality of life in retirement on a guaranteed payout, you should be fine. Pensions are volatile by nature and most companies have moved away from offering these plans because the potential for underfunding due to several factors exist.
