Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Notification meeting on Monday

I am in technology and my LM has scheduled a notification meeting with me on Monday morning. I’m so anxious about it and I cannot sleep. I wish they would have not scheduled it beforehand and just called me sporadically. Having a day and a time just makes it so much harder. I’ve always tried my best at work but the number of reductions in my area look really aggressive. It’s so tough and I can’t stop crying.

I was also laid off from BP. Unfortunately, there is no extension, even though I’m going on maternity leave next week :(

In the past 3 months we had 6 engineers supporting GoA operations resign. These are strong performers and we are not part of any redundancy program. I have never seen attrition in such a short period like this before. They all had jobs lined up before putting in their notice so there is work out there with better pay and more career progression opportunities. Be positive if you are let go and better things will come in the future.

Just got canned today. I can't say that I'm not disappointed but I also feel relieved that I can focus on the next chapter of my life. The last year has been really stressful. I don't feel any regret and I wish BP the best. To those of my colleagues that remain, I wish you all the best working with the team was my best part of working with BP.

Some departments do, in fact, have EOI during this round of layoffs. It’s very confusing since each business/function is managing its processes differently. leadership is not communicating well, and employees don’t understand what is happening.

@dt you've obviously never had a 1:1 conversation with a VP or higher then, if you believe that.

You clearly don’t work at BP. There is no EOI as part of this process.

@df they haven't learnt the lessons of reinvent.

They have systematically eroded morale with this protracted process and I feel very confident in predicting that they will let good people leave through EOI.

It’s unfortunate that BP is letting so many people go. Hopefully, they retain the right talent and provide fair severance packages to those affected.

Hang in there OP and sending you positive energy your way. It’s not much but just know that we empathize. This is hard on a lot of people right now.

@ab depends on country, and probably whether you're badged or a contractor.

E.g in UK nominal exit date for people notified in the coming week will be Oct 3rd, which is three months notice (which will officially start on July 4th).
