Lately I’ve been struck by how much of our work isn’t guided by what’s right. It’s guided by what’s just barely enough. Processes get rewritten not to improve outcomes, but to meet the lowest regulatory threshold. We chase compliance instead of quality.
The focus isn’t on doing things well, it’s on doing things cheap. Fast. Safe enough to get by. You can feel it everywhere: in the product, in the support, in the experience.
If I could help it, I wouldn’t use any of these products.
There are people who are smart and capable, but they are leaving one way or another. We’re building within a system that rewards shortcuts and cost-cutting over craftsmanship and care. One day, that’s going to catch up.
