Everywhere I Look, the Cracks Are Showing

Lately I’ve been struck by how much of our work isn’t guided by what’s right. It’s guided by what’s just barely enough. Processes get rewritten not to improve outcomes, but to meet the lowest regulatory threshold. We chase compliance instead of quality.

The focus isn’t on doing things well, it’s on doing things cheap. Fast. Safe enough to get by. You can feel it everywhere: in the product, in the support, in the experience.

If I could help it, I wouldn’t use any of these products.

There are people who are smart and capable, but they are leaving one way or another. We’re building within a system that rewards shortcuts and cost-cutting over craftsmanship and care. One day, that’s going to catch up.

GE is used as the case study of the century for how to mismanage a successful company, but their people keep getting hired to run other companies with a shinier version of the same playbook. If it gets shareholders money in the short term, it ain't broken apparently.

@OP How low will we go, I do not know. That is what the wise man said. I contemplate this as I wash my hands with cold water in the North Haven site bathrooms because the hot water is mysteriously off or have to carry a roll of bath tissue from home because there is none.

Been through this before. Run the company as far as they can and the try and dump it on someone else who will regret buying it.

Engineering the Extraordinaire = Making things as cheap as possible using the cheapest labor ie India.

Remember, the mission is just GM's lip service. Him and his buddies in the executive level don't care about patients.
