Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Laughing smiling faces

Yesterday I attended an all hands meeting in the lobby of our Austin building. There our EVP held, what I can only describe as a pep rally, with shouts of joy and revelry. Immediately after, I was on a call with two long time servers who are struggling through their last hours at Oracle. The contrast was so obvious. But when I saw the broadcast for this week, I was almost sick.

“ I'm the OP and I find such "pep rallies" not worth the time of a professional. “

To be fair, I call BS!

You sound like you aren't happy in your job and my guess is you aren't cut out for Oracle. Maybe consider finding work somewhere else? After all, you're a professional. It shouldn't be too hard for you.

Boy I sure hit a nerve. Heh, I actually didn't think I would get such a reaction, but hey, a good chuckle first thing in the morning is a good thing. I'm the OP and I find such "pep rallies" not worth the time of a professional. I'm not at 0 anymore and haven't been for years. Further, This charade such as this does nothing to make me anything less than happy to know I am out of that soiled gas station toilet. If you consider allowing yourself to work in a toxic environment, with no raises, diminishing benefits, with dead end products cutting it, then knock yourself out. With my blessing. Me? I'm worth more. MUCH MUCH more.

We aren't in junior High, we are professionals, we don't need any of that hairy rah-rah bull*

We should give credit where credit is due. It's helpful knowing that management is working to boost employee morale during these difficult times. You have to take your wins where you can get them.

With a pep rally that isn't even fit for a High school football game? We aren't in junior High, we are professionals, we don't need any of that hairy rah-rah bullsquirt. Just pay us fairly, give us good work to do, provide constructive feedback and Give us the support that we are at least minimally secure in our positions. They can't do most of that, so how does a "yay team" pep rally fix that?

Typical for Oracle - Having a rah-rah "We're so wonderful" rally, while at the same same RIF'ing tons of employees many of whom gave years (or even decades) of their professional career to Oracle. Cold and callous, what a shameful company!

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Yeats, following the 1918-1919 pandemic.
Deja vu

The whole ‘show’ was like a political rally, with all the appropriate admirers in behind, while the politician tells us how everything is great. Well I hope his exciting new way of working lasts longer than the next round of layoff in December, or the regular mandatory reorganization in January.

As to those in the background crowd, the clock is ticking for you too! Doesn’t matter how much you cheer, or hold thumbs up, the monster will eat you when it is hungry.

As to the politician, there is always a bigger monster lurking in the crowd, sometimes hiding right beside you. Can you trust those around you? Sure?

It's too soon and too cruel to do this pep rally AS you are still firing old people. Just goes on to show how much Hura really cares for his people. Selecting a bunch of folks to have a roundtable where they are only going to agree with him ... How does a real leader get to know what's going on in the ground, by getting to those reps who couldn't make it at all ... not because of lack of effort.
