This is great news for subscribers and terrible news for do nothing execs at the company who have been ja--ing this around for almost a decade and getting nowhere at all. The company cannot compete with Starlink in rural areas. They could have with microwave tech but chose to use that spectrum for 5G BS. Oh well! Another missed opportunity.

As Verizon moves into another round of “transformation,” it’s worth examining why its structural problems persist—regardless of how many reorgs, layoffs, or strategy decks get circulated.

The issue isn’t talent at the entry or operational level. It’s at the top and, increasingly, the mid-senior layer.

Over the past few years:
• Director and above roles have ballooned, often filled with individuals lacking domain depth or executional authority.
• Leadership has grown reliant on external consultants and internal reporting cycles, rather than product delivery or infrastructure modernization.
• Verizon has spent millions lobbying against public broadband initiatives—effectively fighting innovation instead of delivering it.

While municipal networks and co-ops attempt to bring fiber to underserved communities, Verizon positions itself as an obstacle, not a leader. Meanwhile, U.S. consumers—rural and urban—are left with outdated copper, throttled wireless, or overpriced bundles.

This is not a labor issue. It’s a strategic and leadership problem. And as long as the company prioritizes political capital over infrastructure investment—and titles over talent—it will continue to shrink under the illusion of transformation.
