Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Relocation

I’m a remote employee and my wife was recently promoted within her company. We’re having to move out of state by end of August to accommodate her new job’s location. I’m worried about alerting HR of the move because of how anti-remote USAA is now. Is the concern about the possibility of losing my job because of the move real?

I have no idea why people are so brainwashed like this. If OP is fully remote, less is more. Change your address in the HR system and leave it at that. If of course your manager asks tell them but NEVER volunteer information that THEY WILL use against you. Good lord so many sheep out there.

It’s best to let your manager know and be transparent . Hopefully, you can work something out. In addition to the tax implications, management will eventually find out where you are working from because they get a quarterly report on their staff’s computers’ IP addresses that show your approximate location. If you are already remote, I don’t see why notifying your manager would be an issue .

I hope every single one of you remote people who got out covid are forced back in. You have no idea what it's like here in the offices now. It's so unfair that we have to be the sacrificial lambs while you all get to enjoy your cushy remote positions.

If you relocate, you still need to commute into an office no matter what.

In other words, you still need to go to the office and go on zoom meetings and collaborate.

And oh, you still need to participate in team building exercises and ice cream socials.

Then you can go home.

Living 200 miles away from an office os NO excuse for not coming in four days a week…

NEVER TELL THEM ANYTHING especially if you are full time WFH right now. avoid telling them anything at all costs.

At minimum you would need to change the location for payroll tax purposes assuming you are moving to a state with income tax. Otherwise you may have a tax bill.

Unless you are an EMG, they’ll manage you out.

Ask your manager and see what they say.

A guy on my team last year, he was in office, but his wife got a promotion which required them to move to another state where there is no USAA, he asked to work remote and even offered to fly in on his own dime once a quarter, but HR overruled the manager. Unfortunately he did leave the company.

Will you be moving close to another USAA facility so that you can ask to work from there? If not I think you just need to lookout for what’s best for you and your family.
