Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

If you are looking for a job and considering Oracle...

... keep this in mind - the situation isn’t great, i'd say it's bad... There have been ongoing layoffs across multiple units - hardware, cloud, CX - and job security feels unstable (been like this for a while). Even high performers and top salespeople are being let go, which makes it clear that cost-cutting is the priority, not merit.

The culture was never great but now it has deteriorated futher. Mgmt is bloated and largely unaccountable. Advancement is rare, mentorship is minimal or non-existant, and the performance system feels disconnected from actual work. People who try to improve things or speak up are often ignored or sidelined....

The recent Oracle Cloud breach, with millions of records exposed, only added to the internal pressure. It highlighted the aging infrastructure and the company’s slow response to serious issues. Again, this is not new but it's getting more pronounced. The keyword is 'aging' no matter where you look.

A lots of employes are looking to leave, and many . Those still here are dealing with a mix of anxiety/mistrust/fatigue.

Think twice.

Feik newz. Oracle Cloud is invulnerable. So said the 2nd richest man back in 2019 or so. He now has over 40 percent thanks in part to buybacks. I do love me a person who doesn't quit.

@10e the relationship to performance in layoff has no bearing, the reason for that is the law says if there is a Reduction in force there are only 2-3 reasons you can give. And performance could factor in but it cannot be the main issue. Those reasons are:
Eliminated the job ( is is was absorbed by others or the work doesn’t exist now)
Moved the jobs to another location (offshore)
Skillet doesn’t fit the future plan.

Because of this it allows managers to just let go anyone that they don’t like or that they have a bias (discriminate) against. All they have to do is write inside a little box one of those 3 things and it’s done.
However it’s not random, no one comes from in high and tells them who. The managers have to make those choices. They are forced to make those choices.
It’s part of the job, and it’s a sh-t part. But for some managers it’s awesome. We can just throw someone in the heap we don’t want because they are a different color, s-x, religion etc.. The could very well be your top performer. But you get to cut your nose off because you can. Most managers will select lower performing employees and articulate the skill set they don’t have but in most cases you are never going to get to replace that headcount anywhere, so it’s just job elimination.

I have seen much worse than Oracle over 20 years of my career.
The main issue with Oracle is zero job security and you can be let go without any relation to your performance. The company is run by accountants and spreadsheets.
Second issue is very modest pay raises, so whatever you negotiated at the start - that's it, if you are lucky it will keep up with inflation.
Other than that - it's fine and and depends on the department.

I hear OCI is hiring a lot. Layoff in Hardware, CX, Marketing, and some Sales on license side.
