The leadership is small circle of friends who protect each other and shuts down any good ideas.
This hits the nail on the head and this is what's been ruining Nike for the past several years (and then some).

Shocker, the place everyone calls a “relationship company” has a lot of relationships.
I would argue that PK and friends cared about the company, but the latest batch only cares about their well being and their golf club memberships. A good example would be freezing of promotions for all employees in the same team except for “expansion of responsibilities” aka disguised promotions for the friend group.
Congratulations. You just described every corporate in private company that ever existed and how it operates. You really cracked the case!
