The Pareto principle is so true. 80% of the people here are brain dead or mediocre at best. Why have we not trimmed our headcount? Makes no sense.

@1b7 free time?! I feel like I was thrown in a pond with an anchor tied to my ankle. I have zero free time ever.
It is the most odd working environment. People lack critical thinking skills or are just plain lazy. I should not have to tell people how to get their job done when they have been doing it longer than I have. If I have to do their job (or train them how to do their job yet again), I should be paid their salary. So over it. If you complain about them, you are either ignored or are part of the problem. So great, so I can let the whole team fail or allow dead weight.
They laid off all those who knew anything and kept the garbage. Those of us left are scrambling to do everything with little bonus, lousy raises and no overtime.
I’m in that 80%! I’ve been with the company 28 years. Worked my butt off for many, many years. Asked for a layoff but they won’t let me go. So now I’m basically retired and still getting paid my salary!!! I’ve only used two floating holidays so far this year. Why use them if I can basically do what I want and go where I want just about anytime. I plan on saving them and using them all at the end of the year. Some days I don’t even log into my computer.
@d9 Come on. ummm..."likability" is a measurable KPI. So, if your VP enjoys your sparkling personality, you can expect to be rolling in the dough. Forget hard work, results, or actual contributons—just bring your A-game in the charm department, and watch those promotions magically appear. It's not rocket science, folks, just a popularity contest with bigger stakes. Welcome to corporate America.
@15s You're already in it.
Absolutely. In my initial years at work, I hardly got 4% raise but worked liked a dog. I then decided to join the 80% and after that it has been smooth sailing with good bonus/raises and lots of free time.
@d9 What is the performance review tied to?
I want to join the 80% group. It sounds like a job I would be good at
I’ll admit. I’m part of the problem. Worked here for 20years. Make great $$. I literally do nothing. Been fortunate to have a specialized skillset that no one real understands but think they need.
I’ve been riding this gravy train hard. Do really care what direction the company goes as long as I keep enjoying these easy days.
The headcount was trimmed noticeably in 2023 and 2024 with smaller cuts in 2025. I don’t hear any team saying they have enough resources now.
I used to work hard to go above and beyond, but that didn't get me anywhere, and our VP made it clear performance review was not tied to performance but something else, and I've learned over the years bonus/raise differences are negligible between a 3 and a 4, so now I do the bare minimum. People learn and adapt in a culture that celebrates mediocrity.
At CVS it's the CVS-reto principle.
This is where 100% of people do 80% of work. Meaning nothing ever gets completed.
Usually in IT, it's because we have 80% of enough hours or 80% of enough funding....
