Other firms pay 401k match on a monthly basis but this place pays you annually and if you leave before February or whenever it’s paid, you are not getting back what you’re contributed unless you’re layoff. Very evil

@OP That's the way it's been forever. But you will receive the matching as long as you are an employee until January 2nd 2026.

its not your 401k being held hostage, its you, theoretically of course. They are able to control the attrition timing b/c people will hold off leaving until after bonus and 401k matches are paid each year.

The opposite happened to me. RIF this year after a little over 2 years at JPMC. Logged in recently and it showed I was 100% vested in matching and incentive. I'll also get the remaining match for this year in Feb of next year.
Yeah they changed this while I was there. They used to pay it every paycheck. They also stopped guaranteeing the payout, although I think they've always done it.
