How AT&T's Severance Packages Compare

Industry Context: How AT&T's Packages Compare
Severance practices vary significantly across telecommunications companies. Here's how AT&T's approach stacks up:

Industry Overview
Verizon: Base package of 4 weeks plus 2 weeks per year, with health coverage and transition support
T-Mobile: Minimum 4 weeks with 2 weeks per year served, including medical coverage extension
Sprint (Pre-Merger): Standard 4 weeks plus 1 week per year, with standard health continuation

There is absolutely NO 500K uplift or anything close to it at MR75 it is incremental but no big bump at MR75 for Leg T.

Still annoyed by the pension differences to be honest. One coworker from Legacy S tells me they're getting a $500k lift when they make MR75. Think Leg-T is the same. Nothing for the rest of us.

  1. Verizon severance is not 4 weeks plus 2 weeks/years of service. It's 2 weeks/years of service with a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 35 weeks (unless director or above). The cobra costs are covered for the same period. If you are retirement eligible, you can then buy into the retiree medical plan, however it's more expensive than plans on the ACA market, even with a small subsidy that some old timers get. And yes, they provide LHH transition benefits.
  1. Verizon isn't eliminating DEI. They are just relabeling it something else.

Leg T has very few employees? You must be kidding as there are still a lot of Leg T employees. There may not be that many Execs unfortunately but there are many Leg T employees still here.

Verizon also cut management pensions over a decade ago.

AT&T ended the DEI programs in March. The press wrote articles about it, but did anybody actually see the memo? https://www.phonearena.com/news/at-t-removes-dei-policies-ends-woke-programs_id168315

The replies to the comment about 104 weeks of severance are hilarious. "You'll never get that!!" Do these people realize if that is the case then that employee has gold standard job security? "Haha. You will never be surplused!!" Oof.

Last poster, you're probably spot on with your assessment of T waiting out its few remaining Leg T employees that qualify for the 104 week layoff benefit! The last person I saw offered it was in my group in 2017 and he was going to retire in a couple of months anyway. It was as though T decided to give him a parting gift not to mention he was already 67 years old at the time which qualified him for full Social security. It was like winning the lottery for him! What a parting gift from T, can't beat that! So, never say never!

104 weeks is rarely given out. Most union employees do not even qualify for this. Legacy T does have this 104 week language for a 30 year employee that is laid off I believe. Leg T has very few employees and the company will usually wait them out before theyll pay this. What it ends up being is very good job security.

To last poster, most are for fairness, DEI is a discriminatory policy that just like affirmative action is unconstitutional. Everyone deserves an opportunity based on merit, read the civil rights act and see how DEI is in conflict with it.

Give up on your implied DEI rant and stop playing the victim. I guess it’s only ok when something benefits you. Try walking in the shoes of others before posting ignorant cr*p.

"Our union contract severance maxes out at 104 week. Doesn't seem fair that there is a cap".

Funny human behavior that so many other employees would vote this down. They cannot just be happy for others who win the lottery?? Haha... is it jealousy, resentment or perhaps regret that they $ucked up and took a ki$$ a$$ manager job and now they're only getting 3 months severance when they get laid off with a 2 week notice versus TWO YEARS pay that they would have gotten if they stayed in the bargaining unit of Leg T/CWA. Anyways, since we're all going to be laid off eventually, I'd much rather be union and get my 104 weeks pay. It would $u-k being a manager.

As I have always said... along with most management benefits at T, it is slightly below average.

Verizon is also doing away with DEI so I expect AT&T to follow too.
