Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I'm confused

What does a WFH mail mean? That you're getting laid off or that you're not getting laid off? How are people notified? Asking as a newbie (9 months here), just so I know what I can expect tomorrow.

It looks like around half of the FTEs in the SEC are being cut, even though most of the excess comes from ACN.

The SEC has turned into a massive sh-tshow, years ago it was pitched by SLT as a launchpad for future leaders, but in reality, it became a high-turnover pressure cooker.

MF bears ultimate responsibility for this fiasco, especially for enabling his favored pets to fail upward without delivering any results. Leadership was remarkably naive, buying into all the promises ACN made and doubling down on it yet after all this time, the program has only gone backwards and destroyed value rather than creating it.

I’m relieved I got out last year, and I genuinely sympathize with those still stuck in the middle of this chaos, especially our colleagues in EMEA now bearing the brunt of it.

Third time’s the charm… maybe.

  • and instead of being a future leader like promised or any of those long weekends and overtime getting any kind of real recognition, swoosh is rewarding them with RIF.

Well played, well played.

Anyone that’s been here from 2017 realizes doing layoffs in person is absolutely terrifying from everyone knowing “you’re f***ed” and then being escorted out of the building.

I wasn’t impacted then but it was extremely hard to work during that time. Just let me do it at home instead of in person. Anyone asking for this in person is probably a psychopath.

I really wish I would have just slept in last year and not been anxiously watching my inbox for that dreaded invite where some soul-less VP or HR rep tells you that you are being let go. I had more than a decade of giving it my all for the swoosh. Most of those years being rated HS. Sends a clear message to those that remain, if you value your job, su-k up to your boss and their boss even if it means not "doing the right thing" and caring about the consumer and our brand... Just focus on what makes your leader look good.

but back to the point, wfh means they are laying people off, people getting cut are usually earlier than those that remain, sometimes its all in one day, or it could be thursday is for layoffs and friday is the inform for those who are staying. Way back in CDO they did it in person but escorted people out like some perp walk... also not cool. Look, if it's cost save or job elimination we should treat you better. Let people say goodbye. Sure, you probably have to make them sign something about not deleting or doing acts of sabotage for them to get the package. Just be professional. It helps everyone.

Finally, F JD, F the Rat, F all the people they brought in and enabled us to get in this mess where we are laying off good people because they over hired at the Director and up level who made terrible decisions.

It means that there will be layoffs tomorrow. If they do it like last year, if you're going to get fired, they'll send you a Zoom invite for a 15 minute meeting where an HR rep and a senior manager will tell you what your severance will be and how to turn in all your stuff. You'll get the invite just a few minutes before it happens.

In my opinion, doing this over Zoom is a chickenshit way of laying someone off, especially if they have served at Nike for a decade or two or three. This is the BS way of doing things that I thought was going away after they dumped JD and the former head of HR. EH has been all talking about restoring Nike culture and valuing employees, but it's the same old psycho corporate behavior. Senior leaders probably won't be held accountable for horrendous decisions in SEC (like giving Accenture the keys to the kingdom as they underperform), but many rank and file employees who have worked their butts off will likely be dumped.

Good luck!

Wait until tomorrow morning; you will know better. There are probably a lot of FTE layoffs in the SEC space.
