Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

System just rewards those who game it

Putting in extra effort never got me anywhere. Meanwhile, people cutting corners are the ones who seem to have no issue getting ahead. Maybe the real lesson at T is that hard work is overrated. Anyone else feel like they wasted years trying to "do things right"?

I have seen this people laugh it off when they say reward for good work is more work, now I have intentionally started doing slow work.

Above and beyond is always rewarded with more work, more responsibility, and the same pay as the person that skates all day. You are too valuable to production to promote. Meanwhile, mediocre with social skills (or a pretty woman) advance over you (go look at pictures in org charts before you thumb me down).

Go look in the mirror and put on your clown makeup. I’ve been washing mine off for a while now as I head for the door.

"Correcting the system is the whole point of RTO."

If this were true then AT&T would have a different CEO, to start. RTO is about correcting for the CEOs past mistakes.

"people cutting corners are the ones who seem to have no issue getting ahead"

I guess you never took AT&T's "cost of quality" course. Essentially, it says, don't pay for a Cadillac when a Yugo will do. Doing more than the minimum required to retain the customer wastes company money.

Its Low Effort Post guy again. What’s your problem dude? You have no ballz to speak like a man? We have all been burned by the carrot and stick b.s. Nobody here except the 2 year employee is striving for that b.s. goal of a higher rating for the pie in the sky raise or extra award. 500lbs of effort around here converts to 3lbs of reward, and that’s if you are recognized by your challenged supervisor. F-all that. Life is good with a solid salary and my two middle fingers raised while I walk out the door each evening.

Don’t be fooled and think just because you put in hard work or constant extra effort that will save your job.
When they need to cut headcount and your number is up. It does NOT matter how dedicated and hard working you were for MANY years, you would will be gone!

Do NOT think that will save your job because it will not! If you don’t believe me, ask the THOUSANDS that have been laid off over the years!

Yes, 'Responsible' people put in a full day's work from home. They realize the benefit of not having to get up quite as early to sleep in, ignoring emails and phone calls. They apply extra time to go to Costco early, and finishing later at kid's soccer practice. They always take the advantage and the benefits of hardly working. Plus, they have extra energy to waste on trivial matters, by mocking those who go into the office. These employees earn their 8 hours for salary, and not slack off because that is what expected from them as an employee for the company. They get paid to show up.

They apply the extra time to starting earlier and often finishing later because they don't want to take advantage, and they realize the benefits. Plus, they have extra energy not wasted on trivial matters. The sheep go into the office to show their 8 hours, but slack off because they've spent extra effort on trivial things and they get by for "showing up."
