It's amazing how many people are surprised that they got RIFed. This means that there are still many people here who believe that their engagement and hard work means something to this company and they persistently refuse to accept the fact that we are all just numbers here. It is better to accept that bitter truth on time and not let the RIF surprise you.

Rifs has nothing to do with age. It is across the board. Probably a silly union telecom inside joke. If you look it, it is mostly duplicity and areas that revenue has not been positive in like forever, like Wireline. Wireline was in the red at almost every town hall with Tami. I know young and newly enrolled got rif’d. in fact entire teams and orgs where rif’d.
You aren’t even a row in a spreadsheet, just a +1 in the cell at the row for your job title and the column for your age.
Name any job at Verizon that is not a dime a dozen.
No one is safe.
"some were sales and were bringing in revenue"
Just about the easiest job to replace. Sales people are a dime a dozen and require little training. You don't join sales for a safe job you join it for the high potential reward.
It's also likely that these people were actually not high performers.
@1jdf+1ju89agS being realistic does t make you negative. It means you're not blind to the truth anymore. Blissful ignorance is how you end up laid off unprepared.
Many people are surprised to be rif'd because to their knowledge some of the work they did isn't currently accessible by contractors offshore and somehow those rules have changed.
I know several people who were RIF’d that I was surprised to hear about. They were all high-performers, got their sh*t done without complaint, and weren’t in roles that are no longer relevant (quite the opposite, some were sales and were bringing in revenue). The only knock against them were that they were long-tenured (15+ years) and probably highly compensated compared to others.
Your sole purpose is to make the executives rich while they use your 401k to make bad decisions. In the end as always the employee gets screwed but the executives will get each a golden parachute that's called EQUALITY AT VERIZON
Excuse them for thinking their job means something. Not everyone has a negative outlook like you!
