Four weeks notice period

Purely interested in how long everyone else's notice period is.

I've been interviewing (like I hope most of you are), and I've been shocked at how taken aback most recruiters are at my four week notice period.
I know notice periods aren't enforceable and its at best an anti bridge-burning exercise, but this recruiter is telling me four weeks is very unusual.

4 weeks isn't THAT unusual. I gave 5 weeks when I left because I had two client trips that couldn't be handed to someone else without chaos. Stuck it out for the team and clients. New employer wasn't thrilled on it, but they understood why. If 4 weeks is in an enforceable contract, other employers should understand that.

When I was laid off (refusal to relocate, I suppose, although I was given the usual business needs bs), I was given a little over a week’s notice. However, my separation package included 80 hours salary “in lieu of 2 weeks notice.” In Florida, there is no legal requirement for notice by either party.I believe this was an attempt to head off any legal action.

I’m probably going to give like 4 days notice when I go. Yes burning a bridge to he-l is a good thing. It ain’t my first rodeo, I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again, bad companies deserve none of my respect.

2 weeks is the typical period. If you are in management, you might do 3 to 4 weeks.

Unless your employment contract says otherwise, give them two weeks notice and don't you dare allow yourself to feel a single ounce of guilt about it. You may like and respect your colleagues and don't want to leave them in a bad spot, but remember, you're quitting 5he COMPANY because of COMPANY policies. Let the COMPANY pick up the pieces. If the COMPANY leaves the colleagues who you're leaving behind to struggle with the mess, hopefully they'll see the light like you did and get tf on from that company.

I worked for a Georgia company where notice for a colleague was a phone call and the notice was RIGHT NOW so I felt no remorse when I gave one day notice. But remember too you burn a bridge for any recommendation.

Giving notice is not a requirement unless stated in your contract. It’s a common courtesy but seeing how this company has operated since 2020 when a certain arrogant person took over there’s no courtesy necessary in my opinion.

None. They can fire you any time. Why should you give them courtesy they would never give you? They already burned the bridge with their company culture.

How high up are you? 2 weeks is standard unless you’re >=Director level.

If you're above the average team manager level, such as a director or VP then your contractual notice period "could" be several weeks or months. Just depends what is in your contract.
