Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

POs and BTS

Some of the POs are causing problems because apparently they think business and operations don’t know what we’re talking about. You just have your weekly meetings and tell us what dev said and act like you did something when you send out your notes. Maybe try listening to us instead of treating your weekly calls as a “to do list item to check off” and actually LISTEN TO WHAT BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS HAS TO SAY!!!!

We are the ones in the systems doing operations and we don’t get a voice because the POs think we’re just rambling a bunch of bullsh-t when we try to explain what we are seeing or trying to offer a solution for something we have seen and dealt with before!

I am so frustrated with BTS!! All of it!!!!

POs should do UAT on the products they “own”

100% agree with you previous poster. Not like itll do any good. They just copy and paste notes from Jirs and do not try to understand it from both perspectives like they should do.

I’m just as frustrated as you, OP

The only thing worse than a PO who acts like that is a PO who is promoted to a PM

What the F*CK is BTS DOING?

“I’m lucky, small team over performs and we have an extreme outlier PO that is the best I’ve ever worked with. My dilemma is a lack of ownership across the org. The SME’s that really know play their cards close or think if you can’t read their mind and “figure it out” you don’t belong here.”

So you have a good PO. What are you doing here? We are aware there are good, solid POs who are critical to the organization. Congrats. You have a good one ESPECIALLY if your PO can do UAT. (The TRUE test of any PO worth their two cents). Some of us don’t have that. I had a good PO once. That’s how I know who is pulling their weight and trying to understand both sides instead of just copying notes from Jira and calling it a fu--ing day. And we aren’t allowed to talk to talk to anyone except the PO. So as far as I am concerned POs really are the face of BTS for biz/ops: Rate them how you feel. I’m rating mine. And it isn’t good. And BTS is lucky I’m even responding because let’s face it… they want POs to communicate. They (BTS) do NOT care what biz/ops has to say. If I felt they did, I wouldn’t be here saying all this, now would I.

“They think an issue found by BTS and not biz/ops is NOT worth reporting”

Corrected myself there. Whoopsie daisy. 😂

BTS: “Behind the Scenes” and boy do they make sure to keep it that way even though something could affect ops and members.

“If there’s a problem this/ops can just make a ticket and let us know” = PO mentality.

A good PO reports and communicates issues the ops team reports AND things that could affect ops. Know why? Cause they got in there and understood the system and listened to both Dev/IT ops.

A sh---y PO thinks sitting in calls all day with Dev/IT is all they need to understand the system because they think Dev/IT are the know alls and biz/ops are incompetent. They give updates only on the tickets biz/ops has reported because they don’t know and don’t pay attention and think to say “hey guys in biz/ops we found an issue and we are working on this thing that might impact your area”

They think an issue found by BTS and not biz/ops is worth reporting so we spend hours going down a rabbit hole to confirm an issue before we report it because we try to do the right thing and confirm an issue before we report it to try to help BTS (the good ones).

Speaking as biz/ops who has had the pleasure of dealing with a solid PO who wants to learn vs those who think copying notes from Jira is enough for biz/ops.

“Hey GUYS!!l”

One of you reading this is gonna know exactly who I am. Haaaay it’s ya girl Kathy.

Reporting for duty 🤡

lol just kidding. I’m on your side. Can’t stand BTS either. They made themselves one he-l of a scapegoat with POs.

Tell me more about this survey.

Reporting for duty sir 🫡

Waiting on POs… or dare I say PM who are former POs to speak up.

Let’s have it out here. This is the survey. Right here. Cause boy do I have some things I’d love to say about the sh-t they have caused our department!

Whoopsie daisy, indeed,

bts needs that “middle man” cause apparently we’re too incompetent to triage a fu--ing ticket. just think of all the stories and changes made we aren’t told about I’ve had to search for and ask the po about cause THEY DIDNT TELL US SH-T!!!!!

They create stories in Jira and change the status of the story and call people and ask for an update. Literally nothing but a middle man..

Why can’t we make a story in Jira? Isn’t it just a ticket clone? Or what do they call it? A spike? I can make one of those.

@17z+1jtwgqsgg

They sit on calls with dev and don’t pay attention and just copy notes from Jira and send that to biz/ops. Then they have a call with biz/ops and don’t listen to what we have to say cause if there’s an issue biz/ops is too stupid to know what we’re talking about so they just have their call and tell their boss they did their job. And then when they do schedule a call for you to talk to dev that they are on they ask you “so I’m confused or can you remind me what was the story I needed to make?” Because they don’t want to learn the product. They are just a middle man.

Oh and I’m only talking about the sh---y POs. The good ones want to get in there and learn and get it right.

Hey BTS - send us an “anonymous” survey about these product people biz/ops has to deal with. Want to make them your middle man? Youre making them the face of your entire department to us so…. I’ll rate the survey based on the PO I personally have to deal with.

I would rather be directly on a call with dev than go through a middle man PO. Things are getting miscommunicated and the PO just goes “whoopsie daisy! I misspoke”

What does a PO do all day? Seriously someone answer because I’d love to know.

When I labored at Centene, the BTS POs were the absolute worst. They are not trained POs and were all leftover pieces from the Business and trying to get out. Many were nurses who knew nothing about building software. Most of the trained POs left long ago. The ones working in Clinical were with worst of the worst and the VP leading the clinic POs has had several failed software efforts..it's all a mystery but people overall just hate working at Centene.

Rage bait. There are no POs left. Senior leadership says reach out to your closest market contact; problem solved.

Omg - spill the teaaaaa - what products have terrible POs? Product was disbanded in Q4 2023. Most PO’s were RIF’d or had their titles changed to BSA. I didn’t think we had very many PO’s left.

On a high performing team, where our PO does a solid job of understanding most of the who/what/when across a wide spectrum (and does do the UAT). I hate being a team with no upward mobility whatsoever, but perhaps it's better than what most of the replies are going through?

From the business perspective - it's exhausting teaching POs and, frankly, those deeper in BTS. I can't make you want to learn or understanding how the products work. I need you to want to know. They are really ?"BTS" product owners - but they can't speak to how the actual business products work (you know, the ones that make us money so we all get paid?).

I am not taking that stupid survey. I deleted that email. The product owners are the face of IT as far as I am concerned. I never hear from anyone else on that side of things other than some mass email asking how they are doing. They can talk to the product owners since that’s who they make me talk to.

I don’t even speak on the calls when our PO says “anything else to add?”

It won’t get relayed.

Want to see a PO freak out? Ask them to do UAT on the product they “own”. 9 times out of 10 they’ll find someone else to do it for them.
