Heard that there are layoffs up to 20%-30% coming for DEG over the course of this and next year, heard it before but never happened so believe it when you see it. CO ET’s are already at low numbers and cover multiple offices so will probably see little to no reductions in that title even though the company has increasingly suppressed many alarms across the network. There is a lot of equipment limping along in simplex with multiple issues both inside and outside in the field. Open any RT cabinet or walk into any CO and see all the alarms, looks like a Christmas tree blinking but no tickets to repair them are being created or just suppressed.
After recently combining DT/ET techs under the same CNIO org and managers the company is now trying to combine the work of DEG DT’s with ET’s. They are in a different family of skills and titles, the job description is something like 10 or 11 pages longer for ET. DEG DT’s are closely aligned with SSIM DT’s so it makes sense to combine them, same title, level and family of skills. Interesting that they didn’t negotiate this during the recent contract negotiations instead, they waited until after contract ratification to try and subvert the members vote and appeal directly to Union leadership. Most members I know aren’t on-board with this hostile attempt to break contractual division of labor, the increase in scope of work, no offer of any wage increase and leader led or compentent training like decades past wouldn’t be offered. It also would change job security for a lot of members based on seniority. Another attempt to throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks, pathetic! Increase revenue no matter the impact to the workforce or long term cost is CEO Stankey’s business model, addition via subtraction.
When they increased the scope of work for ST’s and OPT’s it was done during contract negotiations so the members could vote on it. It included a wage increase, pension bump, promotion from level 30 to level 31 and they didn’t combine their titles or job descriptions.
The corporate globalists are hypocrites when it comes to their jobs. If they want to make a real impact to the bottom line they should flatten the four levels of VP’s or make combo titles then increase the scope of work for upper management. Another option is to off-shore those jobs like the have done with a lot of labor and low to middle management. Not going to happen because they are too important and it only applies to labor below the c suite.
